9 July 2018/in Culture, Dancing - Music, News, Tours, West Bali

Jembrana, the West Bali Regency, is now famous with the Jegog music (Bamboo Orchestra) and the Mekepung (Buffalo Races). But it also has some dances that were originally created by local Jembrana’s artists. These original dances are Luihing Paksi Dance, Mekepung Dance and Cempaka Putih Dance.
Luihing Paksi Dance is inspired by the white starling bird (Jalak Bali), that can only be found in West Bali. It stories about the wildlife of starling bird in the jungle, which plays and flies from one tree to another. This dance is accompanied by Jegog and vocal instruments from the musicians.
Jembrana also has Mekepung Dance which is inspired by the Buffalo Race attractions. This is a new dance creation that reflects the process of the buffalo race, from its preparation and race itself. This dance also accompanied by Jegog Instrument.
The icon of Jembrana’s dance is Cempaka Putih Dance, Cempaka (Magnolia) is one of the flower in Bali. This dance depicts the beauty and fragrant of the white cempaka flower which become one of the means of ceremony or worship of Hindu people. Cempaka Putih dance is accompanied by Jegog music, mixed with metal music instrument (gamelan) and vocal instrument as well. HAPPY GALUNGAN & KUNIGAN!

5 June 2018/in Bali, Culture, News

On May 30th, Bali celebrated the day of Galungan, which commemorates the triumph of Dharma over Adharma, or good against evil. During 10 days until Kuningan on June 9th, nice bamboo poles called “penjor” decorated with young coconut leaf line the street all over Bali. During this period, a lot of preparation should be done by the Balinese families such as temple decoration, offerings and also an important one which is food. There are some mandatory dishes prepared by each and every family around Bali, for example the famous Tum Bali (chopped meat with Balinese seasoning cooked in banana leaf), Sate Lilit, Lawar (chopped meat mix with chopped vegetable) and Urutan (Traditional Balinese pork sausage). Every day our guests are invited to taste one of these delicious celebration meals in our restaurants. For you, who wants to know about the taste of the delicious Balinese food, we have our Balinese specialities menu in our Rama Restaurant that you can have anytime.

CELEBRATION OF DAJUMA TEMPLE

3 April 2018/in Culture, Dajuma, News, West Bali

On March 31st, took place an important ceremony at Dajuma, called Piodalan / Puja Wali, aimed at honoring our main temple. Every temple in Bali has its own Piodalan day, based on when the temple was inaugurated. Two references are used to determine the day of the Piodalan, which can be either based on Pawukon (Balinese weekly calendar), in this case the ceremony will be held twice a year or based on Sasih (Saka Calendar) for which the ceremony will be held once a year (mostly on full moon day).
Our lovely temple at Dajuma has its Piodalan on the full moon of the tenth month (Purnama Kedasa) every year and this year it was on 31st March 2018. Piodalan is like anniversary for the temple, its purpose being to keep the balance of the 3 relations which is creates the harmony of the life according to the Tri Hita Karana philosophy: harmony between the human and the God, harmony between the human and environment and harmony between humans themselves. On the pictures, our staff beautifully dressed with ceremony clothes, accompanied by our guests immersed in the heart of the Balinese culture.

NYEPI & MELASTI at DAJUMA

19 March 2018/in Bali, Culture, Dajuma, News

Last saturday, took place the Balinese New Year 1940 in the Saka calendar, the famous holy day called Nyepi. Imagine the island totally quiet, the airport closed, and all Balinese families staying at home, praying and meditating for one full day.
Indispensable companion of Nyepi, a few days before, was the Melasti purification ceremony. Melasti was meant as the ritual to cleanse the world from all the filth of sin and bad karma, through the symbolic act of acquiring the Tirta Amerta, “the water of life”.
At Dajuma, as shown on the picture, Meslasti was celebrated with our guests according to the tradition on the edge of the beach with the aim to purify oneself of all the bad things in the past and throw it to the ocean. Selamat Hari Raya Nyepi!

CULTURAL EXPERIENCES AT DAJUMA

5 February 2018/in Bali, Culture, Dancing - Music, News

Because of its proximity to the cradle of Jegog music, it was natural for Dajuma to invest in one of these beautiful Jegog instruments, made entirely by hand from bamboo and teak wood by skilled craftsmen from the nearby villages. Our guests often ask us to discover the Balinese culture whose music and dance are essential points of reference. Many of our employees know how to play this instrument and are happy to introduce our guests to this special music. Why special? Because it generates sounds and vibrations that touch you deep within yourself.
This new instrument is a useful addition to the Balinese dance classes given every week by the Pekutatan Dance School on the Dajuma stage. We hope you will like it!

HAPPY GALUNGAN & KUNINGAN!

30 October 2017/in Bali, Culture, News

On November 1st, Bali will celebrate the day of Galungan, which commemorates the triumph of Dharma over Adharma, or good against evil. Second in significance after the Nyepi or Saka New Year, this observance comes twice a Gregorian year, as the Balinese use a 210-day calendar system known as the Pawukon that is the basis for their daily rituals, temple anniversaries and holidays. The festivities will end with Kuningan celebration on November 11th. Bamboo poles decorated with young coconut leaf decorations will line the streets all over Bali. Series of sacred dance performances and rituals, with pilgrims attending from all over the island, will take place on these occasions. A very unique cultural experience not to be missed!
On the picture, our guest Janett from Germany discovers the beauty of these decorations in the traditional market of Negara. Happy Galungan and Kuningan!

The Dajuma family grows!

25 September 2017/in Culture, Dajuma, News, People

Part of our Front Desk team, Mira is well known from our guests and particularly appreciated because of her always smiling availability and kindness. Her motto is “there is no request by the guest that can not be satisfied and make him happy ». A few days ago, Mira’s family welcome a beautiful 3,8 kg baby called Tisya. Hindu communities in Bali believe that babies in the womb are guarded by four elements, namely amniotic fluid, placenta, blood and umbilical cord. Three of these elements are released when babies are born, but the umbilical cord stays attached for about a week. The release of the rest of the sacred umbilical cord is done on the occasion of a ceremony called “Mepenelahan” which is considered as a purifying ceremony for the baby. On the picture, Mira, Indra (husband), Tiara and Baby Tisya who just finished doing the “Mepenelahan” Ceremony. Welcome Tisya and long life to you!

COMMEMORATION OF INDONESIAN INDEPENDENCE and MORE

31 July 2017/in Bali, Culture, Jembrana, News

This year in Bali, the month of August will be particularly busy in terms of commemorations. Three important anniversaries will be celebrated: Indonesia’s Independent Day on August 17th, Bali’s Anniversary on August 14th and finally Jembrana’s Anniversary on August 15th. A few days before the commemorative day, the government is used to organise several activities which are carried out from the village level up to the National level. On July 28th, the government in Pekutatan sub-district organised an exciting endurance race gathering all the elementary schools in Pekutatan, each school presenting two groups (Male and Female), each group consisting in 17 students. The committee of this event is looking for the best group (male and female) and the winner will participate in the same event at the regency level. Good luck guys!

DAJUMA FAMILY, TOGETHERNESS IN A CULTURE

24 July 2017/in Bali, Culture, Dajuma, News, People

In Balinese beliefs, each house must have at least one temple which acts as a shield against bad spirits and evils. Dajuma does not escape to this nice tradition: last wednesday our staff decided to organise a ceremony in honor of one of our temple “Penunggun Karang” located in front of the lobby. The ceremony must be held a specific day which name is Budha Kliwon Ugu, all Hindu people in Bali celebrating their temples the same day.
At the end of the ceremony they shared one of the offerings called “Rayunan”. This is a special offering that is made in a big basket which looks like a Balinese Rijsttafel.
From left to richt on the picture: Suarbawa (Housekeeping), Agus (Front desk), Padmi and Leli (Waitresses), Kadek (Priest & Manager), Punya (Security), Putu (Gardener) and, standing up, Gusalit (Assistant GM).
