THE POWERFUL RHYTHM OF JEGOG: JEMBRANA’S UNIQUE BAMBOO ORCHESTRA

13 July 2026/in News

When visiting West Bali, there is one cultural experience you should not miss: Jegog, the traditional bamboo orchestra that originated in Jembrana. Believed to have existed since around 1912, Jegog is a musical heritage found only in this part of Bali. The story of Jegog began with local farmers. While working in the fields, they used bamboo to create loud sounds to scare birds away from their crops. The beautiful echo of bamboo striking bamboo inspired Kiyang Geliduh to transform these simple rhythms into a musical instrument. Using giant bamboo that grew abundantly in the forests of Jembrana, he created what is now known as Jegog. In its early days, Jegog performances were held as a joyful celebration after the harvest season. Today, this remarkable bamboo music has become one of Jembrana’s most treasured cultural attractions. Its deep, powerful, and melodic sound creates an uplifting atmosphere that captivates everyone who listens.
Last week at Puri Dajuma, we were delighted to present a special Jegog performance accompanied by several traditional Balinese dances. The evening became even more memorable as our guests were invited to try playing the instruments themselves. Their excitement and smiles reflected the joy of experiencing this unique cultural tradition firsthand. The wonderful enthusiasm from our guests has encouraged us to continue featuring Jegog whenever possible, especially during our special cultural evenings. We hope that many more guests will have the chance to experience the powerful rhythms and vibrant spirit of this unique musical heritage during their stay at Puri Dajuma. At Puri Dajuma, we believe that travel is not only about discovering beautiful places but also about connecting with the traditions that make each destination truly special. By sharing experiences like Jegog, we hope every visit becomes a meaningful journey into the culture and traditions of West Bali.

A SLOW JOURNEY THROUGH WEST BALI

15 June 2026/in News

In a world that moves fast, sometimes the most meaningful experiences come from slowing down.
Our newest experience, A Slow Journey Through West Bali, invites you to discover a different side of Bali, one filled with authentic local stories, natural beauty, and simple pleasures.
The journey begins at a peaceful cacao plantation, where guests can learn about different cacao varieties, pick fresh cacao fruits, and taste cacao straight from the tree. Surrounded by the tranquil atmosphere of rural West Bali, the experience is complemented by fresh young coconut water and traditional Balinese snacks.
From there, guests visit a local cacao processing facility to witness the fascinating transformation of cacao beans into cacao nibs, gaining insight into the craftsmanship behind every chocolate product. The adventure continues to the scenic Palasari Dam and the beautiful Sacred Heart Church of Palasari, a unique landmark where Balinese culture and Catholic heritage blend harmoniously. After lunch, the journey concludes at a local dragon fruit plantation, where guests can learn about the cultivation process and enjoy the fresh sweetness of the fruit directly from the farm. More than just a tour, this experience offers a chance to connect with the authentic soul of West Bali through its landscapes, flavours, and local traditions, one slow moment at a time.

UDANG BAKAR SAMBAL BONGKOT: A TASTE OF BALI SAVOR

1 June 2026/in News

Beyond its beaches and attractions, Bali is best discovered through its flavors and traditions. At Puri Dajuma Beach, one of our most beloved signature dishes is Udang Bakar Sambal Bongkot, a true celebration of authentic Balinese cuisine and local ingredients.
Freshly grilled prawns are served with sambal bongkot, a traditional Balinese delicacy prepared from the aromatic flower stalk of the torch ginger plant. Its delicate fragrance and subtle citrus notes perfectly complement the natural sweetness of the prawns. Accompanied by Balinese-style fried rice infused with traditional spices, this dish offers a rich and memorable taste of the island.
More than simply a meal, Udang Bakar Sambal Bongkot is an invitation to experience Bali at a gentler pace — savoring local flavors, culinary traditions, and the simple pleasure of dining by the sea. A signature experience not to be missed during your next stay with us.

REWILD BY JODI: A TRANSFORMATIONAL JOURNEY THROUGH WEST BALI

25 May 2026/in News

We were honored to host REWILD by Jodi at Dajuma Beach — a unique women’s retreat bringing together nine inspiring guests from Australia for five unforgettable days in West Bali. More than a holiday, REWILD was a journey of adventure, reflection, connection, and authentic cultural discovery. Far from Bali’s busy tourist areas, guests experienced the island’s quieter soul through village cycling tours, waterfalls, hot springs, a peaceful Buddhist monastery, and meaningful encounters with local communities. Designed by Jodi as an intentional and transformative experience, the retreat blended nature, culture, wellness, and human connection in a truly special way. Shared laughter, conversations, and moments of reflection became just as memorable as the destinations themselves. At Puri Dajuma, we were grateful to support this beautiful vision through heartfelt hospitality, oceanfront tranquility, and authentic West Bali experiences. We sincerely thank Jodi and her wonderful guests for allowing us to be part of this inspiring journey — and we look forward to welcoming REWILD back again soon.

MEET DEDI: THE CREATIVE SOUL BEHIND THE KITCHEN AT PURI DAJUMA BEACH

18 May 2026/in News

This week, we’re delighted to shine a spotlight on Dedi, a valued member of our kitchen team at Puri Dajuma Beach. Together with the entire culinary team, Dedi plays an important role in creating memorable dining experiences for our guests at Rama Restaurant, the Romantic Dinner and the Teppanyaki Restaurant. More team profiles will follow throughout the year as we continue sharing the stories behind the people who make Dajuma feel like home.
For the past 10 years, Dedi has dedicated his talent, energy, and creativity to the kitchen at Dajuma Beach. Today, he works alongside seven other team members — Rudi, Dewi, Puriawati, Udi, Tri, Lia, and Komang — making the kitchen team a close-knit family of eight people including Dedi himself. Together with his colleague Rudi, Dedi helps lead the kitchen team with passion and commitment, ensuring every dish reflects the authentic spirit of Bali and the warmth of Dajuma hospitality. Before joining Dajuma, Dedi gained experience working in several hotels across Bali before eventually returning to his hometown in West Bali. He began his journey at Dajuma as a cook and, through years of dedication and hard work, grew into one of the leaders of our kitchen team today.
Interestingly, Dedi never imagined he would build a career in the culinary world. During his younger years, he studied mechanical engineering and was also passionate about science while at school. He later continued his education at a tourism school in Denpasar for two years, where his interest in hospitality and culinary arts continued to grow.
Cooking had always been naturally close to him. Since his school years, Dedi enjoyed cooking with friends and preparing meals outdoors after hunting trips — a passion that slowly developed into the career he truly loves today. Another important inspiration came from his grandmother, whose cooking and love for traditional flavors left a lasting impression on him and helped shape his passion for culinary arts. At his 34 years old, Dedi is not only a passionate chef but also a proud father to his two sons, Delista and Saka, with his beloved wife Suci. In the kitchen, he currently focuses mostly on the hot section, where he enjoys creating flavorful dishes using local ingredients and traditional inspirations from West Bali. Beyond creating delicious dishes, Dedi is deeply passionate about introducing local flavors and regional specialties to guests visiting Dajuma. Through his creativity and love for local ingredients, he hopes to showcase the rich culinary potential of West Bali and create meaningful dining experiences for every visitor.

SLOW MOMENTS ON YOUR PRIVATE TERRACE

4 May 2026/in News

At Puri Dajuma Beach Eco-Resort & Spa, comfort is not only found inside the room, it also lives quietly on the terrace, gently swaying between moments of rest and the sound of the ocean breeze. Both our Deluxe Garden View Cottage and VIP Ocean View Cottage feature a private hammock on the terrace, inviting guests to slow down and embrace the simple beauty of doing nothing at all.
In the Garden View Cottage, the hammock becomes a peaceful corner surrounded by lush tropical greenery, birdsong, and the calming atmosphere of our gardens. It is the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee, read a book, or simply reconnect with nature.
Meanwhile, in the Ocean View Cottage, the hammock offers a front-row seat to the Indian Ocean. As the sea breeze drifts through the terrace and the sound of the waves fills the air, every moment feels slower, softer, and more meaningful. Sunsets become even more memorable when enjoyed from the comfort of your own private hammock.
More than just a feature, the hammock has become one of those little details our guests remember most, a symbol of slow travel, where time is no longer measured by schedules, but by peaceful moments and genuine relaxation. At Dajuma, sometimes the best part of the journey is simply lying back in a hammock and letting Bali move at its own rhythm. Ready to try it?

REMOVAL OF OUR BELOVED TALIPOT PALM TREE

13 April 2026/in News

Dajuma experienced an extraordinary moment last week: the removal of our beloved Talipot palm tree, which had long stood guard over the Dajuma main temple. Planted in 2002 at the very beginning of Dajuma, it grew to more than 20 meters tall over the years, becoming a truly iconic presence. The Talipot palm is a remarkable species that blooms only once in its lifetime, after which it dies a few months later. This natural cycle is what occurred with our tree. As much as we cherished it, we had growing concerns about the risk of it falling during strong winds. A specialized team from Singaraja carried out the removal with great care and professionalism, strictly following all safety procedures and using proper equipment. Our gardening team has already planned a beautiful new garden to take its place. While it is difficult to say goodbye to such a magnificent tree, we are confident that what comes next will be just as captivating. Well done to everyone involved!

HEALING HANDS, PASSED DOWN THROUGH GENERATIONS

9 February 2026/in News

Jasuli is one of Dajuma’s most dedicated team members, having been part of our journey since the very beginning, back when Dajuma was still only a dream in the making, during the early construction stage. He first worked with our garden team, helping shape the beautiful tropical landscape that surrounds the resort today. As time passed, Jasuli’s life path gently led him to another calling. With a natural talent for massage, he later moved to the spa, where his talent could be shared more deeply. He learned traditional massage from his grandparents, respected healers in Pekutatan Village. The knowledge he received was not only a skill, but a legacy, one that has been passed down through generations with sincerity, wisdom, and heart. He has now become a highly experienced therapist with more than 18 years of practice. Many guests truly love Jasuli’s massage, not only for its technique, but also for the sincerity behind it. He gives every treatment with heartfelt care, hoping it brings comfort, relaxation, and positive energy to each guest.
Jasuli’s wish is simple: that Dajuma will always be the best it can be and he will always continue to give his very best service to our guests.
