A NEW HAT FOR OUR RAMA TERRACE Puri Dajuma, Beach Eco-Resort & Spa, West Bali

A NEW HAT FOR OUR RAMA TERRACE

20 January 2020/in Dajuma, Eco-Resort, News, Restaurant, West Bali

With the Bendega villas extension of Dajuma in 2016, our Rama restaurant needed more space what we did with an outside terrace particularly appreciated by our guests because of its proximity with the sea. From there we have breathtaking views on sunsets and a gentle breeze from the sea. This year we decided to put a hat on it. But not an ordinary one: we chose the shape, depending on your imagination, of a banana or a leaf fallen down from the tree or a turtle shell. Some others can think of a Toraja roof. Anyway, the job has been performed by a skilled team of 6 workers headed by our old friend Selamat (green shirt on the picture). Not easy to realize such a complex roof but Selamat did it! Congratulations!

PLANTING TREES AT DAJUMA

13 January 2020/in Dajuma, News, Tropical garden, West Bali

Julia and Mariia have been our guests the last 2 weeks, part of a Yoga group of 12 people coming from all over Europe. They particularly appreciated their stay with us and formulated an unusual request: planting 2 trees in the garden what our staff organised with great pleasure. This is what is shown on the picture: an already tall Araucaria for Julia and a young coconut for Mariia. Both trees will be happy to have your visit next year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

6 January 2020/in Dajuma, Eco-Resort, News, West Bali

This year again, Dajuma celebrated the New Year in a very festive way. More than 80 guests enjoyed the New Year Eve with 3 orchestras (Jegog, Gamelan and Western Live), a pantagruelic buffet including, beside other dishes, the famous “babi guling” and delicious desserts prepared by our kitchen team under the attentive supervision of our 2 Chefs, Dedi and Rudi. The decoration theme this year was “nature”. All our staff participated in the preparation of very nice decorative items including a splendid Garuda entirely made of bamboo and palm leaves. The kitchen stands and the stage were also decorated with natural leaves. On the 12th stroke of midnight, everybody was happy to exchange their wishes for 2020 under the stars and a beautiful firework. We wish you a very happy, healthy and exciting year 2020!

NEW BANANA FARM CLOSE TO DAJUMA

1 January 2020/in Nature, News, Pulukan, West Bali

This week Dajuma had the privilege to welcome a delegation of  the Ministry of Finances of Indonesia, who came inaugurating a “Banana Farm” in the 1200 ha Pulukan state plantation, close by Dajuma. Initiated by the Governor of Bali, this project is aimed at producing the Cavendish banana specy which is particularly appreciated by export markets. All conditions for getting the best quality are fulfilled in this part fo the island: a rich and fertile volcanic ground, a hot and humid climate and a good irrigation system. But it is also a challenge because this specy is threatened since the early 90s by the “Panama disease”, unfortunately all around the world now. Hopefully this one will not hamper this beautiful project. On the picture the representatives of the authorities ready to plant the first specimen.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

23 December 2019/in Dajuma, Eco-Resort, News, West Bali

On behalf of the entire Dajuma staff, Lely and Erik on the picture would like to wish you a very merry Christmas!
This year our Christmas tree is really special: it is made of driftwood collected on the beach. To show the snow, we picked up some kapok from the kapok trees of our neighbours. The result is this beautiful and so special construction particularly appreciated by our guests. It is also a modest part of our effort to limit our carbon footprint.

ANNUAL JEGOG FESTIVAL AT RAMBUT SIWI

9 December 2019/in Culture, Dancing - Music, News, West Bali

One of the Jembrana’s annual event is the Jegog Festival which was held this year over 3 days, from December 3rd to 5th.
Jegog is a form of gamelan music indigenous to Bali, played on instruments made of bamboo. Born in West Bali in the 1920’s in a small village close to Dajuma, it has started to become popular in other regions of Bali and even abroad in Japan, Germany and the US.
The annual festival aims at preserving, developing and fostering Jegog as a cultural object of prime importance. It is a unique traditional music as a symbol of creativity and the original identity of Jembrana people and culture. This year, the festival agenda was particularly heavy with the participation of 84 Jegog groups from all around Jembrana (including school groups) and 2,520 artists. Hundreds of visitors, including our guests, enjoyed the exhibitions of the forms and types of Jegog and listened their unique sounds. Seminars attended by jegog artists, cultural figures, creators and observers of the Jegog also took place. On the last day, mass Jegog staging (Jegog Mebarung) accompanied by the performance of Joged Dance shown on the picture closed the festival.

LAUNCH OF OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT

25 November 2019/in Dajuma, Eco-Resort, News, West Bali

In cooperation with the German company Stoneline (https://www.stoneline.de/en/about-us), we are happy to launch a new environmental project aimed at awaring the young generations in Bali to the necessary protection of their environment. It will consist in proposing to the 5 primary schools of the district of Pekutatan and their 496 pupils a drawing contest on a given topic linked to the protection of their environment. 3 winners per school will be rewarded by an independent jury, while a reusable strong bag, aimed at reducing the use of plastic, will be distributed to each and every family for their shopping. The first step has been accomplished recently with the distribution of decorative flowers and plants which will adorn the gardens of the schools. We will regularly keep you posted of the progress of this project.

NATACHA: OUR REPEATER GUEST CHAMPION

18 November 2019/in Dajuma, Eco-Resort, News, People, West Bali

Let’s Natacha talk about her Bali experience:

“When coming from Paris 10 years ago, I discovered another world in Bali, more precisely Dajuma world: it changed my life.
I was more than impressed by the setting of the resort built on a beautiful cape enhanced by fishermen activities and birds, the neighbor praho beach on West bay, the endless wild East beach, the nature at its best which makes you breathing and regenerating. I enjoyed the large Balinese style cottages with private terrasse and garden, the large pools overlooking the oceans, the restaurants and SPA by the sea.
But the most important in my opinion are the people I met there, particularly the regretted Indra whose spirit is still accompanying me today. Also among the staff and in the village, where people are always eager bringing happiness to each other. It made me feel so different. I discovered another part of myself and decided to change of carrer, I am therapist now.
I was really touched by their philosophy ‘Tri Hita Karana’ : Harmony between Humans and Gods, Humans and Nature, Humans themselves.
After 3 vacation stays, I decided to spend 6 months straight at Dajuma in 2013, participating in every ceremony and event. I even travelled to Yogyakarta together with the first Dajuma employees trip. I became familiar to many families around the village. We consider each other like a real family: we share many things, our happiness and sadness, when I am also far away, in France. We don’t like to being separated for a long time.
And I am now again back for 6 weeks, total 54 weeks. I love Bali!”

Terima kasih banyak Natacha for this so touching testimony!

EVENT OF THE WEEK IN PEKUTATAN: HINDU STUDENTS GATHERING

11 November 2019/in Culture, Jembrana, News, Pekutatan, People, West Bali

The Jembrana Hindu Youth Communication Forum held an event entitled “Hindu Students Gathering”. All the Junior High Schools (public schools) in Jembrana delegated their students (male and female) to participate in this event. It took place at Satria Mandala Stadium in Pekutatan, 10 minutes from Dajuma, from November 7th to 10th, 2019 with the participation of 200 students. Each group built a beautiful and well decorated tent. This event had a lot of competitive activities such as traditional games, preparation of Hindu ceremonies, cooking traditional cuisine, Balinese decoration, Balinese story-telling, painting, writing Balinese letters in sanscrit, art performances, etc. In front of the tent of each group, they also prepared a small exhibition of local handicraft. This event aims at fostering the preservation of Balinese culture in all Hindu students, in particular two major features of hinduism which are love and responsibility. Using our free shuttle service, one of our guest, Birgit visited this event. She was happy to meet the students and discover their creativity and commitment to Hinduism. Well done guys!
