DAJUMA SUNSETS: WHICH ANGLE WILL BE YOURS?

8 January 2018/in Bali, Dajuma, Eco-Resort, Nature, News, West Bali

This week, we decided to publish our blog on the theme “Dajuma Sunsets” but seen from the viewpoint of our guests through their own pictures. Oriented full West the resort presents stunning sunsets which are appreciated by our guests particularly those who like to photograph this natural phenomenon. But the problem is under which angle should we take such picture? Because, from many locations around the resort, the result is different as shown on the photo montage. And that should not stop you from enjoying a good glass of wine. Which angle will be yours?

AGUNG VOLCANO: WHAT’S UP?

4 December 2017/in Bali, Nature, News, People, Tours

It is extremely difficult to predict the behavior of a volcano. As far as Agung Volcano is concerned, the eruptive process already began with 3 eruptions last week. The worst scenario would be a pyroclastic eruption. But this would affect the slopes of the volcano only and for this risk, the authorities have already taken the necessary measures by defining a 7 to 15 km security perimeter around it in order to avoid reproducing the situation of the 1963 eruption where 1100 villagers living on the slopes of the volcano were killed.

Now the question is: should we, as tourists, come to Bali or not?

The answer is definitively yes because the pyroclastic risk is null as long as you respect the security perimeter. The only remaining issue is the cloud of ashes which can disrupt the air traffic. Since the first signs of activity in September, a lot of ashes have already been evacuated and Ngurah Raï airport has re-opened after only a few days of closure. More than 50 cities in the world are living close to an active volcano.

Because of its location 80 km from Agung volcano, the risk of being disturbed in Dajuma is really very weak. Moreover, in case of closure of the airport, we offer free stay for the extra days you would be obliged to spend with us or, if you prefer, we would take care of the re-routing of your flight from Java (Banyuwangi or Surabaya) and organise all the necessary transportation by car.

No reason why you should hesitate to come visiting us! We look forward to welcoming you soon! Have a nice trip to Bali!

AGUNG VOLCANO SITUATION

2 October 2017/in Bali, Dajuma, Nature, News

Out of 147 volcanoes in total, Indonesia has the largest number of historically active volcanoes (76), its total of 1,171 dated eruptions is only narrowly exceeded by Japan’s 1,274. (https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/indonesia.html)

Considered by the Balinese as the center of the world, the very sacred Mount Agung culminates at 3142 m. Its last eruption goes back to 1963, after more than 100 years of slumber.

Puri Dajuma being situated 80 km as the crow flies from Mount Agung the risk of being disturbed by the volcano is very weak.

As long as the Indonesian authorities decide to keep opened Bali’s Ngurah Rai international airport, which is also about 80 km from the volcano and with flights running as normal so far, we are pleased to welcome our guests in the safest and most comfortable way.

In the event of an eruption and ash clouds that could temporarily disrupt air travel, authorities have made preparations for flights to be diverted to seven regional airports, including on Java and Lombok islands. Dajuma being located at only 1h30 from the ferry to Java, it would be easy to get back home by flying from any airport in Java.

We wish you a lovely stay in the island of the Gods!

ANOTHER ECO-EXPERIENCE: SEA TURTLES PROTECTION

21 August 2017/in Beach, Eco-Resort, Nature, News

On the beaches surrounding Dajuma, sea turtles are used to lay their eggs by burying them in the sand. Until the early 2000s, eggs were mostly destroyed by predators such as stray dogs, birds and …humans.
Today, the situation is very different: for the past 15 years, we are supporting a conservatory that has been set up a few kilometers from Dajuma. Yesterday’s turtle hunters have become guardians who carefully monitor gestation lasting on average 2 months.
On the picture, our young guest Clara together with Anggun, volunteer of the conservatory, is helping the newly born turtles to get out from the sand in a fully protected area. In a few minutes, the babies will be swimming in the sea!

DAJUMA ECO EXPERIENCES: RICE FARMING

7 August 2017/in Dajuma, Nature, News, People, Tours

Rice paddies are for westerners just fascinating. Probably because they are the perfect expression of this so rare harmony between people and nature. By shaping, generation after generation, these beautiful curves perfectly integrated in the landscapes, with volcanoes on one side and the sea on the other, Balinese farmers are the worthy heirs of a long tradition of rice cultivation.
We regularly invite our guests to live a unique experience by sharing the life of one of our neighbour farmer and learning how to plough the rice paddy and plant the rice. On the picture a family from Switzerland is getting acquainted with the way to drive the cows during the preparation of the land and plant the rice just after. But you need to like to have the feet in the mud!

INAUGURATION OF A NEW TREKKING AREA

5 June 2017/in Nature, News, Tours, Trekking, West Bali

A few kilometers from Dajuma, close to the sacred tree Bunut Bolong, we were invited last saturday to the inauguration of a new trekking area by the government of Jembrana which is this region of West Bali where Dajuma is located. Jembrana is now well known for its authenticity and the variety of its hidden treasures: the famous Bali National Park with its unique diving and snorkeling spot Menjangan, another worldclass spot for surfing called Medewi, the holy temple of Rambut Siwi, the fishing harbor of Perancak, the buffalo races, the Jegog music and so many other curiosities! Another very interesting discovery is trekking in the jungle what is now possible thanks to the initiative of Jembrana Tourism Authority: imagine a 1h30 to 2h tour by foot where you will discover the unbelievable wealth of Bali nature, its trees and flowers, its so tiny and beautiful temples nestled everywhere. We are ready for the next summer season to make you discover this new treasure of West Bali. We are sure you will love it!
On the picture, the Dajuma team crossing a small river with 500 other participants to the inauguration.

BEAUTIFUL BIRDS

4 October 2016/in Dajuma, Nature, News, Tropical garden, West Bali

Impossible to miss these beautiful birds when staying at Dajuma because they are everywhere in the garden and not wild at all with humans.
This picture was taken from the bed of our Shanti duplex villa just before sunset : a couple of Yellow-vented bulbuls decided to have their « mandi mandi » (bath in Bahasa indonesia) just in front of the terrace. A fascinating and touching spectacle where you see birds toileting exactly (or almost …) like humans !

FAREWELL DEAREST FRIEND EDI Puri Dajuma, Beach Eco-Resort & Spa, West Bali

FAREWELL DEAREST FRIEND EDI

18 April 2016/in Nature, News, People, West Bali

We were so impressed when we met Edi a few weeks ago. From his own house in Gumbrih village, located ten minutes from Puri Dajuma, this  handsome and friendly young man aged 36,  was taking  care of any wild animal in danger. Of the babies when their parents have been killed like civette babies, of the bats, monkeys or wild cats.
But I Putu Agus Edi Darmawan was before all known as a snake specialist. He joined the rescue snakes organization in Bali. He always helped people around to catch the snakes and release them to their natural habitat in the forest. He also taught the people to identify the snakes, poisonous or not, handle them without killing them. He also spread information about them through a document explaining why snakes are useful in nature, which ones are dangerous or harmless and what to do in case of bite.
…
Today the West Bali community is very sad because Edi passed away a couple of days ago, bitten by a king cobra at Pangyangan village. It happened  when he fell accidently holding in his hands the snake just captured.
Our sincere condolences to his wife and his fourteen years old daughter. The cremation ceremony will be conducted on Tuesday 19th April 2016.
Goodbye friend, rest in peace

The creamy and smelly durian 1

The creamy and smelly durian

21 March 2016/in Bali, Nature, News

If you look carefully at some trees along the small roads in Pekutatan area, you may be in

The creamy and smelly durian

terested by some local fruits, such as the durian.
The outside may look like the big sweety jackfruit, but the durian is like no other with its strong smell.
When matured it could be so disturbing for passengers that carrying durian in the public transportation may be forbidden.
But native from Indonesia and Malaysia, growing seasonally, quite nutritive and expensive, the durian fruit is a very popular food for most people from South East Asia.
If you usually enjoy strong smelling creamy cheese, just try some pieces of matured durian: a true vegetarian option!

WILD WEST BALI

14 December 2015/in Culture, Nature, News, West Bali

We are not the only one to be in love with West Bali : long ignored by tourist guides, Bali west is finally recognized as one of the most beautiful parts of the island with its unique natural and cultural treasures: the site of Perancak and its incredible boats, the most sacred temple of Rambut Siwi, the West Bali National park, the vibrant Jegog music, the popular buffalo racing, the surf and diving spots … Well the list goes on!
Like us, Mark Eveleigh is one of these Bali West lovers. He just wrote a long article on Bali for the  famous Independent newspaper in which Bali West has not been neglected. Many thanks to you Mark (www.markeveleigh.com  / @Mark_Eveleigh)
