RELIGIOUS CEREMONY AT RAMBUT SIWI TEMPLE Puri Dajuma, Beach Eco-Resort & Spa, West Bali

RELIGIOUS CEREMONY AT RAMBUT SIWI TEMPLE

17 July 2017/in Culture, News, People, West Bali

Located a few kilometers from Dajuma is the famous and holy Rambut Siwi Temple. A major religious ceremony coinciding with the full moon took place there for 5 days, from July 5th to 9th. It is regularly held every six months, the participants coming from all around Bali to pray and ask the Gods to always protect the island from all kinds of natural disasters. The next ceremony will be held from January 31st 2018 and you are most welcome to participate in.
On the picture is the main temple called “Pura Luhur Rambut Siwi”. “Luhur” means high, major. Usually, this temple is the last to be honoured  after praying in other temples in Rambut Siwi Area.

OFFERINGS ON THE BEACH

13 July 2017/in Beach, Culture, News, People

All around Bali is the tradition of offerings called “canang” (pronounce “chanang”). Every day, in every place, private, public or professional, Balinese are used to dispose these small square baskets made from cut coconut leaves, filled with flowers accompanied by an assortment of gifts for the Gods and crowned by a single stick of incense. The “canang” has a strong meaning in Balinese beliefs: it is not only a gift of gratitude to the Gods but also a kind of self sacrifice, part-meditation and part-escape from the buzz of everyday life.
On the picture, family Klein from South Africa decided to share with our staff in sunset, a unique moment of meditation on the beach by offering to the Gods the offerings they prepared in the afternoon. Om santi santi santi om…

HAPPY PARENTS

26 June 2017/in Culture, Dajuma, News, People

Our front desk supervisor Agus, is much appreciated by our guests for his kindness and professionalism. Last wednesday, we had the pleasure to share with him and his family, in his beautiful house of Gumbrih, an important ceremony called “Nyambutin”. The first 3 months of his life, a Balinese baby still belongs to the Gods and cannot put even one foot on the ground. The Nyambutin ceremony aims at welcoming the baby in the world of humans and this is what happened to Agus’ son called Stiven Rama Diasta a few days ago. A warm welcome to Stiven and our congratulations to Agus and his wife Puji Astani!

BEAUTIFUL KITES

19 June 2017/in Beach, Culture, Dajuma, News, People, West Bali

Another beautiful tradition in Bali is the kite celebration. Every year mainly in July and August, Bali sky is covered of these colorful kites driven by kids as well as by adults. The kite in Bali has a strong meaning: it is not only a hobby for Balinese but also a link to the sky and a way to say thank you to the Gods for what they do for the humans. At the moment, in all villages, everybody is preparing his kite for the various competitions which will take place this year from the beginning of July until the end of October (http://www.bali-indonesia.com/magazine/bali-kites-festival.htm).
Dajuma is no exception to the rule: on the beach where the wind is just ideal, village’ kids train themselves in view of the next competition and are also glad to initiate our guests. You should not miss it: it is just unbelievable because some kites are sometimes 10 meters long! Just crazy!

PEKUTATAN DANCING SCHOOL ON DAJUMA STAGE

22 May 2017/in Culture, Dancing - Music, News
From their youngest age, Balinese children are initiated to traditional Balinese dances in every village of the island. Among many other customs of their rich culture, dancing takes a particular importance: because it is not only a demanding and codified physical exercise but also a link to the past and  legends perpetuated by the Ramayana.
Since many years, Dajuma helps the dancing school of the village to maintain this beautiful tradition. Every week, young villagers are used to come on Dajuma stage and perform their art under the vigilant guidance of their professor. Our guests are always fascinated by this spectacle and their children are often invited to accompany them. Always a beautiful moment of sharing!

NYEPI IS APPROACHING

6 March 2017/in Bali, Culture, Dajuma, News

The famous “Day of Silence” called Nyepi in Bali, will take place this year on March 28th. Celebrating the New Year in the Saka calendar, this event is probably the most interesting in terms of Balinese traditions. All of the island’s inhabitants abide by a set of local rules, which brings all routine activities to a complete halt. Roads all over Bali are void of any traffic and nobody steps outside of their home premises. Village meeting halls known as ‘banjar’ and streets feature papier-mâché effigies called ogoh-ogoh, built throughout the weeks leading up to the Saka New Year.

On this unique occasion in the year, Dajuma offers a special package not to be missed:

BEAUTIFUL WOODEN SCULPTURES OF BALI

20 February 2017/in Culture, Dajuma, News, People
Graduated from the Carver’s School of Tabanan, Agus is one of our local suppliers who takes care of all our decorative carvings in the purest Balinese tradition. After having completed the carving of 145 meters above the doors and windows of our Bendega villas last May (see picture below), he is used to come every friday at Dajuma to show to our guests his know-how by carving in front of them. Here on the picture he shows one of his new creation, a mythic bird which will decorate one of our rooms or maybe will be bought by one of our guests. Agus is also the brother of our lovely Padmi, waiter in our restaurants. We love what you are doing Agus!

70th anniversary of Puputan Margarana

28 November 2016/in Culture, News, People

Everybody visiting Indonesia heard about Colonel Ngurah Raï whose name is celebrated everywhere including in the name of Bali International Airport.
But very few know that this national hero landed with his troops on the beach in front of Dajuma in April 1946 to bypass the blocus of the island by the Dutch army.
On November 20th,  the authorities celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Puputan Margarana (« fight until the end ») at Taman Pujaan Bangsa (TPB) Margarana, as a form of respect and appreciation for the service and sacrifice of heroes.
The ceremony was led by the Deputy Governor of Bali, I Ketut Sudikerta. In his speech, He said « the memorial is the momentum of renewal of the historical values of the nation. The Puputan led by Lieutenant Colonel I Gusti Ngurah Rai, against the invaders who wanted to regain control of the country, shows the spirit of struggle and unity of the people of Bali, as an integral part of the Republic of Indonesia. »

MORNING’ GREETING

19 September 2016/in Culture, Dajuma, News, People

One specific feature of Dajuma is the special relationship between our staff and young kids. In all parts of the resort, a special attention is given to them in terms of equipment such as swings, slide, balls, buoys, wading pools, etc. But the most important is definitively the communication between our staff and these young guests. Like on the picture where Juliarta, our restaurant supervisor, is greeting a young 2 years boy called Lyam. Welcome kids and enjoy!

SELAMAT HARI RAYA GALUNGAN & KUNINGAN !

12 September 2016/in Culture, News, West Bali

Last Wednesday, Sept 7th, the Balinese started the celebration of Galungan which commemorates every 210 days, the triumph of Dharma (good) against Adharma (evil). It marks the time when the ancestral spirits visit the Earth. The last day of the celebration is Kuningan, 10 days later on Sept 17th, when they return.
All over Bali, bamboo poles called « penjor », finely decorated with young coconut leaves decorations,  adorn streets and houses. This is a unique welcome to Bali if you happen to be on the island during this period. If you miss this one, don’t forget to put in your diary the next one which will take place from April 5 to 15th 2017.
Happy Galungan & Kuningan !
