Governors Cup Race 2013

2013 Buffalo race season will end on November 24th, with the Governors Cup Race.  This racing attraction of pair of buffalos remains preserved by farmer’s communities. The racing is not just to win but more intended to give pride to the buffalo owner. Buffalo race is one of the 12 arts categorized into race cultural attraction of Jembrana. Such attraction has been organized since 1920’s, almost simultaneously with the development of the Jegog music. Come spend the weekend at Dajuma. Sunday 24th, we will leave from Dajuma at 8h00am to the racetrack. Another memorable moment of our dear and well preserved West Bali. We are waiting for you.

Last week, Dajuma had the opportunity to attend to ITB Asia in Singapore. This year, 61 participants were selected to be part of Indonesian Pavilion, supported by the Ministry of Tourism. We met tour operators from various countries including: Korea, Middle East, China, Russia, Italy and more. Dajuma had meetings back to back during the entire three days. We felt the growing interest for our little paradise and its amazing area which invites to experience the real Bali. Thanks to all. Now time to follow-up to get the best out of it!

One of Dajuma’s most popular trips is going snorkeling or Diving at Menjangan Island. We had the pleasure to welcome the nice Blanc family. When we spoke to them about seeing Nemo in his natural habitat, the entire family was enthusiast about the idea. For Kim 6 and Kylie 8 years old, it was important to take time to learn about snorkeling. Therefore the days before, we spent with them 2 hours in our pool with mask and tuba. When we arrived at Menjanagan, the lesson was well understood. The family was accompanied by two guides Putu and Budy who took special care for the girls so parents could enjoy freely the beautiful ocean. We did two snorkelings with a lunch break in between. We took pictures. Back to Dajuma, the parents were delighted about the tour and the progress and confidence of their girls swimming. Another happy moment to share at Dajuma! Nemo I can’t wait to see you again!

Dajuma was invited to the ground-breaking ceremony for the first tourism school to be established in Jembrana Regency. Both the Governor (Bupati) and Vice-Governor (Vice-Bupati) were present with representative bodies of Tourism and Education. Besides the school building, the one hectare of land will include a sport center. From now on to 2014, a total of 144 students will register to this new school. This initiative will help the area develop manpower with all around skills about tourism. Dajuma will initially welcome trainees to get some on the job training and some of them may join us on the long term.

For people familiar with Bali, there are numerous ceremonies, which are based on the 35 days Hindu calendar: 1 year, 5 years, 30 years and 100 years ceremony. All these rituals are written in the WEDA (Hindu Religious book). This year the 30 years ceremony or “Ngenteg Linggih” was performed at the village Temple. During this ceremony one brown Buffalo, one brown cow, one black lamb and one white duck are sacrificed and offered to the god. Pekutatan is composed of 6 Banjars or sub-villages where in total 1300 Hindu families live. Thereby Banjars have to establish a special schedule so that all their people can come to pray, dance and make offering. It was very colorful and entertaining. See you in 30 years…

Dajuma is always challenging itself with new areas to discover. After the high season, it’s the best time to explore new tours with some of our Dajuma friends. The most recent one was to go to Blimbingsari and explore the area. Blimbingsari was the first Christian Village of Bali, who established itself on April 1st, 1947. Today there are 170 Christian families cohabiting with Hindu and Muslim communities. Just behind this well organized village there is a magnificent forest where we had a 3 hours trekking. The trek was conducted by the local ranger who made us passed through this luxurious jungle. We saw some birds, a variety of trees, which are several centuries old, different types of insects, a paradise for nature photographer. Now time to debrief with our Dajuma friends and decide how we will integrate this new tour to our catalogue. We’ll keep you posted.
