Our Bendega Villas will officially open their doors on May 1st but our guests could not wait until then and decided to test the water slide connecting the 2 new pools immediately. A nice moment of relax reminding our childhood! With its 45 m lane leading to a first 16 x 8 m basin and a whirlpool tub, the water slide connects to another basin located 2,5 m below. A nice waterfall overflows from the whirlpool tub to the second basin. In total 570 m3 of prestine water flowing continously by gravity exactly like a natural river, which saves a lot of energy.

All our guests and partners know Rondy, our GM in charge of sales and marketing for his competence and kindness. But very few know that he was graduated last year from the Maha Saraswati University with a Bachelor in Economy management. He has been working hard during 3 and a half years, studying every week many hours in parallel of his responsibilities at Dajuma. About his motivation for these studies, he says “I wanted to understand from a theory viewpoint what I was doing in practice every day”. He started working for Dajuma 12 years ago as Front Desk Officer, after a first diploma obtained from the Tourism Academy (Management Pariwisata Indonesia). Step by step he gained experience and new responsibilities until his current position. A trajectory that  summarizes Rondy’s personality, a blend of will, tenacity and intelligence. And modesty… because it took one year to get his approval for the publication of this blog! Congratulations for this outstanding achievement dear Rondy!

We were so impressed when we met Edi a few weeks ago. From his own house in Gumbrih village, located ten minutes from Puri Dajuma, this  handsome and friendly young man aged 36,  was taking  care of any wild animal in danger. Of the babies when their parents have been killed like civette babies, of the bats, monkeys or wild cats.
But I Putu Agus Edi Darmawan was before all known as a snake specialist. He joined the rescue snakes organization in Bali. He always helped people around to catch the snakes and release them to their natural habitat in the forest. He also taught the people to identify the snakes, poisonous or not, handle them without killing them. He also spread information about them through a document explaining why snakes are useful in nature, which ones are dangerous or harmless and what to do in case of bite.

Today the West Bali community is very sad because Edi passed away a couple of days ago, bitten by a king cobra at Pangyangan village. It happened  when he fell accidently holding in his hands the snake just captured.
Our sincere condolences to his wife and his fourteen years old daughter. The cremation ceremony will be conducted on Tuesday 19th April 2016.

Last Tuesday took place a great commemoration on the large beach just in front of Puri Dajuma.
It was 60 years when Lt Col I Gusti Ngurah Raï landed here with his soldiers from East Java, after the Dutch army blocked the access to Bali in Gilimanuk.
Native from Bali from the warrior Ksatriya caste, Ngurah RaÏ formed and commanded the Ciung Wanara regiment, the first official military force in Bali following Indonesia’s independence in 1945.
The inscription on the monument boat constructed there and recently refurbished by Puri Dajuma: “returning home after reporting to the republic’s leadership in Yogya” clearly refers to the meeting in Yogyakarta, Central Java, during which Ngurah Raï was tasked with leading the resistance in Bali.
5 APRIL 1946
The regiment spearheaded the guerrilla resistance in Bali against the better-armed forces that tried to bring Indonesia under Dutch rule. They perished at Margarana (Tabanan district) 20th of November 1946.
Gathering between the hotel’s lawn and the monument boat, veterans with their orange caps, young people with their green caps from the Indonesian army, military and civil authorities could share this important page of Indonesia’s history, and the guests enjoy it.

A festive and joyful celebration took place at Dajuma last week on the occasion of Kayna’ 21st birthday. Kayna is the daughter of our neighbors and good friends Murni and Simon who already celebrated the wedding of their other daughter in 2012 at Dajuma.
Kayna is curently studying in the University of Melbourne in the third and last year of a Bachelor degree in Business and Commerce.  She wants to continue next year with a Master’s Degree in Management. A brilliant and pretty young lady for whom we wish every success! On the picture surrounded by her university friends and parents in Dajuma garden just after sunset.

Located besides the SPA on West side and above the ocean,  Puri Dajuma’s main temple is a major place for its staff, mostly Hindous.
The temple houses a holy Mask brought from Java some years ago with great fanfare,  many ceremonies take place there.
Last Wednesday March 23rd was the day to celebrate in festive rituals, with a lot of people and a large orchestra.
After a ‘melasti’ or purification in front of the sea in the morning, the gods and deified ancestors have been invited for their blessings under the foolmoon.
A great atmosphere for the young dancers richly dressed showing their abilities as well as for the guests who had the opportunity to enter the deep and exciting culture of Bali.

The outside may look like the big sweety jackfruit, but the durian is like no other with its strong smell.
When matured it could be so disturbing for passengers that carrying durian in the public transportation may be forbidden.
But native from Indonesia and Malaysia, growing seasonally, quite nutritive and expensive, the durian fruit is a very popular food for most people from South East Asia.

Nyepi is probably the most extraordinary celebration in Bali. Can you imagine a full day of silence commemorated every Saka new year which fell on March 9th this year, where people all around the island stay at home with lights kept low, with no working, no entertainment, no traveling, and for some, no talking or eating at all!
