CHOCOLATE FACTORY CLOSE TO DAJUMA

Indonesia is the world’s third largest producer of cocoa. However, despite this privileged position, it is only recently that an excellent chocolate is produced locally. Among the producing regions, that of Jembrana in Bali is probably the most promising. A few steps from Dajuma, in the small village of Gumbrih, Putu after being trained in Macassar, decided to embark on a new chocolate factory. Working cooperatively with the village producers of cocoa beans, it produces a magnificent chocolate that delights the taste buds of our customers.
A local initiative we are happy and proud to help in our hotel supplies for our chocolate fondants and our little squares served with coffee, among others. In the picture Putu let us know how this machine mixes for 2 days cocoa and cocoa butter to make the most creamy chocolates. Good luck Putu!

Everybody visiting Indonesia heard about Colonel Ngurah Raï whose name is celebrated everywhere including in the name of Bali International Airport.
But very few know that this national hero landed with his troops on the beach in front of Dajuma in April 1946 to bypass the blocus of the island by the Dutch army.
On November 20th,  the authorities celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Puputan Margarana (« fight until the end ») at Taman Pujaan Bangsa (TPB) Margarana, as a form of respect and appreciation for the service and sacrifice of heroes.
The ceremony was led by the Deputy Governor of Bali, I Ketut Sudikerta. In his speech, He said « the memorial is the momentum of renewal of the historical values of the nation. The Puputan led by Lieutenant Colonel I Gusti Ngurah Rai, against the invaders who wanted to regain control of the country, shows the spirit of struggle and unity of the people of Bali, as an integral part of the Republic of Indonesia. »

One specific feature of Dajuma is the special relationship between our staff and young kids. In all parts of the resort, a special attention is given to them in terms of equipment such as swings, slide, balls, buoys, wading pools, etc. But the most important is definitively the communication between our staff and these young guests. Like on the picture where Juliarta, our restaurant supervisor, is greeting a young 2 years boy called Lyam. Welcome kids and enjoy!

Fishing off-shore is one of our in-house activity much appreciated by our guests. Jupry, our beach supervisor, himself son of a local fisherman, is always happy to organise a fishing party on one of these beautiful prahos. Starting from the West beach close by the resort, they sail a few miles between Bali and Java in a place where the fish is abundant. On the picture our guest Christopher is proud to show his catch, a beautiful Indian Threadfin also called Mirror fish which has been especially grilled and served to Christopher’s family for the dinner.

In a very joyful ambiance, Audrey and Matthieu from France got married at Dajuma last week, with all their family and friends around them. After the Hindu blessing in the garden performed by our priest Kadek, the exchange of rings followed by a “vin d’honneur” took place on the beach at sunset. A delicious dinner was served on the new Bendega pool deck with some breaks devoted to Balinese traditional dances, the launch on Chinese lanterns on the sea and a beautiful fireworks. Finally a talentuous modern orchestra from Negara took over for the rest of the party.
We wish Audrey and Matthieu to make a dream of their life and to make of their dream a daily reality. All the best!

Recently, our guest and friend Sam from Plymouth in the UK has been invited to give a speech on the occasion of the anniversary of the Pekutatan Tourism School. He was very pleased to provide some guidance to the students and explain from the viewpoint of the guest what is important in a hotel in terms of service and relationship with the staff. Sam and his wife Tery are both nurses at the public hospital of Plymouth and used to spend their holidays, a few weeks every year, at Puri Dajuma.  The best and useful way to convey the “voice of the customer” to these future hotel staff. All our guests and partners know Rondy, our GM in charge of sales and marketing for his competence and kindness. But very few know that he was graduated last year from the Maha Saraswati University with a Bachelor in Economy management. He has been working hard during 3 and a half years, studying every week many hours in parallel of his responsibilities at Dajuma. About his motivation for these studies, he says “I wanted to understand from a theory viewpoint what I was doing in practice every day”. He started working for Dajuma 12 years ago as Front Desk Officer, after a first diploma obtained from the Tourism Academy (Management Pariwisata Indonesia). Step by step he gained experience and new responsibilities until his current position. A trajectory that  summarizes Rondy’s personality, a blend of will, tenacity and intelligence. And modesty… because it took one year to get his approval for the publication of this blog! Congratulations for this outstanding achievement dear Rondy!

We were so impressed when we met Edi a few weeks ago. From his own house in Gumbrih village, located ten minutes from Puri Dajuma, this  handsome and friendly young man aged 36,  was taking  care of any wild animal in danger. Of the babies when their parents have been killed like civette babies, of the bats, monkeys or wild cats.
But I Putu Agus Edi Darmawan was before all known as a snake specialist. He joined the rescue snakes organization in Bali. He always helped people around to catch the snakes and release them to their natural habitat in the forest. He also taught the people to identify the snakes, poisonous or not, handle them without killing them. He also spread information about them through a document explaining why snakes are useful in nature, which ones are dangerous or harmless and what to do in case of bite.

Today the West Bali community is very sad because Edi passed away a couple of days ago, bitten by a king cobra at Pangyangan village. It happened  when he fell accidently holding in his hands the snake just captured.
Our sincere condolences to his wife and his fourteen years old daughter. The cremation ceremony will be conducted on Tuesday 19th April 2016.

A festive and joyful celebration took place at Dajuma last week on the occasion of Kayna’ 21st birthday. Kayna is the daughter of our neighbors and good friends Murni and Simon who already celebrated the wedding of their other daughter in 2012 at Dajuma.
Kayna is curently studying in the University of Melbourne in the third and last year of a Bachelor degree in Business and Commerce.  She wants to continue next year with a Master’s Degree in Management. A brilliant and pretty young lady for whom we wish every success! On the picture surrounded by her university friends and parents in Dajuma garden just after sunset.
