BUFFALO RACES: ONE OF THE HIDDEN TREASURES OF WEST BALI

28 November 2017/in News, Sport, Tours, West Bali

Last week was the final championship of Mekepung “Buffalo Race” for this season. To end up the buffalo race season last sunday, the government invited the competitors to something new: the “Mekepung Lampit” or buffalo race in the mud. The one and only in 2017 has been gathering 38 participants. Next year the government will hold Mekepung Lampit in several times. On the picture a “Young Jockey » looks like the guardian of the culture and tradition of West Bali by learning the spirit of buffalo race.

DISCOVER THE HIDDEN TREASURES OF WEST BALI

20 November 2017/in News, Tours, West Bali

Because we share the same love for West Bali, its unique lanscapes, people and culture we decided to go for a close partnership with the Five Pillars Foundation, a community development organization which offers to our guests thematic journeys covering most cultural, artistic and natural treasures of West Bali. Six programs are proposed to our guests:

  1. The Richness of Nature: An Adventure into Local Sustainable Agriculture, which showcases the experiences of local farmers and how they produce products such as coffee, rice, cacao, mushrooms and coconut oil;
  2. Reconnecting with Nature: Exploring Paradise, which takes on a more recreational orientation and is designed for those who want to be physically active and explore nature;
  3. The Essence of Bali: Nature, Community & Spirit, which helps visitors explore Balinese perspectives on what it means to be a good human being and how to live in this world;
  4. Peoples & Communities of Bali, which provides a unique opportunity for visitors to meet villagers from various walks of life, including artists, local changemakers, craftmen and religious leaders;
  5. The Arts & Culture of West Bali, which showcases local artistic traditions such as ceremonies, music, dance, and knifemaking, and
  6. Bali Safari: The Plants & Animals of West Bali, which provides special emphasis on the lives of wild and domesticated animals and includes meeting rescued reptiles and other wildlife, butterflies, and domesticated goats.

On the picture, a good illustration of programme 5, discovery of the artistic life in West Bali: the picture was taken at one of artist’s house family in Melaya Sub-District. From left to right Rondy, Ganda, Dina (Dajuma), Gusti Biyang (Ulon craftsman), Alice (FPF), Aji Mang De (bamboo instrument craftsman) Alan (FPF) Mang De (Talented Artist) and Ngurah (FPF).
The best way to discover the hidden treasures of West Bali! Enjoy it!

REFILL STATIONS

13 November 2017/in Bali, Dajuma, News, Restaurant

Dajuma is proud to be part of the Bookgreener Refill Initiative (www.refillbali.com).

Thanks to Jeroen (vanoverbeek.jeroen@gmail.com) who represents in Bali the company Nazava (www.nazava.com) specialised in water filters, Dajuma has now 3 water refill stations, one in each of our 3 restaurants, where our guests can refill for free their glass bottles with a pure filtered water. The water comes from a 40 meters deep well and is then filtered in a ceramic filter provided by Nazava. Because of its volcanic origin the water is rich in oligoelements and totally virgin of bacteria and other chemicals. Its quality is regularly checked by the Quantum Laboratory in Denpasar. Selamat minum (Cheers in Bahasa)!

MAKING FRIENDS AT DAJUMA

6 November 2017/in Dajuma, News, People

On vacation, because we are more relaxed and available than usual, we are ready to make new friends. This often happens in cruises and tour packages. This is also what happens in Dajuma where the atmosphere is very suitable to build new friendships between guests, even if they come from different countries. This may happen when they swim together, in the garden or when sharing a dinner or a cocktail in the sunset.
On the picture, from left to right, our guests Gregory, Sally from Australia, Abiola from the UK, Sabine from Austria and Michael from Australia became inseparable close friends during their stay with us. We wish them a long friendship!

HAPPY GALUNGAN & KUNINGAN!

30 October 2017/in Bali, Culture, News

On November 1st, Bali will celebrate the day of Galungan, which commemorates the triumph of Dharma over Adharma, or good against evil. Second in significance after the Nyepi or Saka New Year, this observance comes twice a Gregorian year, as the Balinese use a 210-day calendar system known as the Pawukon that is the basis for their daily rituals, temple anniversaries and holidays. The festivities will end with Kuningan celebration on November 11th. Bamboo poles decorated with young coconut leaf decorations will line the streets all over Bali. Series of sacred dance performances and rituals, with pilgrims attending from all over the island, will take place on these occasions. A very unique cultural experience not to be missed!
On the picture, our guest Janett from Germany discovers the beauty of these decorations in the traditional market of Negara. Happy Galungan and Kuningan!

I AM IN BALI NOW

23 October 2017/in Bali, News, People

A campaign with the slogan “I am in Bali now” was launched recently to encourage tourists to come to Bali despite the situation of Agung volcano which fortunately seems to return to slumber. Our guests were happy to participate in it by taking pictures showing their pleasure to be in Bali. By its location 80 km from the volcano, Dajuma is in a safe area where the risk of being disturbed by the volcano is anyway very weak. We wish you a very nice stay in the Island of the Gods!

BALINESE WEDDING: A UNIQUE CULTURAL EXPERIENCE

16 October 2017/in Bali, News, Wedding

Among cultural experiences offered to our guests there is one which is particularly appreciated: the participation to a local wedding. This is what happened last week to Robert and Janett from Germany who were invited to the wedding ceremony of Agus and Tina, a few kilometers from Dajuma. Agus completed his training as waiter at Dajuma last year. Our front desk staff helped Robert and Janett wear the traditional dressing. They enjoyed a lot this important moment of sharing. Congratulations to the newlyweds !

RIJSTTAFEL: A MUST OF INDONESIAN CUISINE

9 October 2017/in Dajuma, News, Restaurant

There is a simple way to experience the incredible wealth of Indonesian cuisine. It’s by ordering a Rijsttafel! This strange word comes from the Dutch and litterally means “the rice table”. It consists of many dishes giving a good idea of the wealth of the Indonesian cuisine. Although the dishes served are undoubtedly Indonesian, the rijsttafel’s origins were colonial. During their presence in Indonesia, the Dutch introduced the rice table not only so they could enjoy a wide array of dishes at a single setting but also to impress visitors with the exotic abundance of their colony.
Our cooks prepare a special Rijsttafel composed of the best Balinese specialties served on an offering plate usually used in the temples.
The picture was taken by our guest Roger and his spouse from Germany who particularly appreciated the dish and were asking for the recipes because “they would love to get some of their memories alive in Germany”! Selamat makan!

AGUNG VOLCANO SITUATION Puri Dajuma, Beach Eco-Resort & Spa, West Bali Bali Dajuma

AGUNG VOLCANO SITUATION

2 October 2017/in Bali, Dajuma, Nature, News

Out of 147 volcanoes in total, Indonesia has the largest number of historically active volcanoes (76), its total of 1,171 dated eruptions is only narrowly exceeded by Japan’s 1,274. (https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/indonesia.html)

Considered by the Balinese as the center of the world, the very sacred Mount Agung culminates at 3142 m. Its last eruption goes back to 1963, after more than 100 years of slumber.

Puri Dajuma being situated 80 km as the crow flies from Mount Agung the risk of being disturbed by the volcano is very weak.

As long as the Indonesian authorities decide to keep opened Bali’s Ngurah Rai international airport, which is also about 80 km from the volcano and with flights running as normal so far, we are pleased to welcome our guests in the safest and most comfortable way.

In the event of an eruption and ash clouds that could temporarily disrupt air travel, authorities have made preparations for flights to be diverted to seven regional airports, including on Java and Lombok islands. Dajuma being located at only 1h30 from the ferry to Java, it would be easy to get back home by flying from any airport in Java.

We wish you a lovely stay in the island of the Gods!

The Dajuma family grows!

25 September 2017/in Culture, Dajuma, News, People

Part of our Front Desk team, Mira is well known from our guests and particularly appreciated because of her always smiling availability and kindness. Her motto is “there is no request by the guest that can not be satisfied and make him happy ». A few days ago, Mira’s family welcome a beautiful 3,8 kg baby called Tisya. Hindu communities in Bali believe that babies in the womb are guarded by four elements, namely amniotic fluid, placenta, blood and umbilical cord. Three of these elements are released when babies are born, but the umbilical cord stays attached for about a week. The release of the rest of the sacred umbilical cord is done on the occasion of a ceremony called “Mepenelahan” which is considered as a purifying ceremony for the baby. On the picture, Mira, Indra (husband), Tiara and Baby Tisya who just finished doing the “Mepenelahan” Ceremony. Welcome Tisya and long life to you!
