We have something unique in our garden which has a very special importance for Hindu’s people in Bali. It is a tree called “Bila”. In Balinese Hindu’s tradition, almost all of the plants (or part of it) are being used as a means for praying or making an offering.
Shown on the picture is our “Bila” tree in front of Villa Soka, we have this tree in other area of our garden too. This tree called “Bila” in Balinese and “Maja” in Bahasa Indonesia. Bila tree is related to Siwaratri Day or the night of Lord Shiva. On Siwaratri Day the Hindu people in Bali are used to make a “Kwangen” (one of means in praying) using the Bila’s leaf. There is a mythological story behind using this leaf in Siwaratri night. The story is about the life of a hunter named Lubdaka, which got a blessing from Lord Shiva after spending a whole night in the forest. In the darkest night (night of Lord Shiva), to fight against his fear and keep him awake, Lubdaka pluck Bila’s leaves and throw the leaves one by one into the lake, and, unwittingly the leaves fall on the stone which is the Shiva Linnga or the symbol of Shiva. Because of what he did in the forest, after his death, Lubdaka’s spirit were blessed by Lord Shiva.
On May 30th, Bali celebrated the day of Galungan, which commemorates the triumph of Dharma over Adharma, or good against evil. During 10 days until Kuningan on June 9th, nice bamboo poles called “penjor” decorated with young coconut leaf line the street all over Bali. During this period, a lot of preparation should be done by the Balinese families such as temple decoration, offerings and also an important one which is food. There are some mandatory dishes prepared by each and every family around Bali, for example the famous Tum Bali (chopped meat with Balinese seasoning cooked in banana leaf), Sate Lilit, Lawar (chopped meat mix with chopped vegetable) and Urutan (Traditional Balinese pork sausage). Every day our guests are invited to taste one of these delicious celebration meals in our restaurants. In a few days will start the FIFA World cup in Moscow. Everything has been prepared on our side in order to watch this event in the best possible conditions: under license of the FIFA representative in Indonesia, we have the right to spread the images of the competition throughout the property. A large 55 inch OLED screen will be at the disposal of our guests 24 hours in our home cinema and a video projector will also be available for the most important football matches in our Sinta lounge with comfortable seats and specific service. A good moment of sharing in perspective for our guests football lovers!
This week took place at Dajuma the wedding of Melinda and Andrew. 68 guests celebrated this union in Dajuma’ garden. After the wedding vow declared by the bride and groom in front of the witnesses, they exchanged their rings. The weds accompanied by their families and friends were then invited to the beach to enjoy a sunset cocktail party, while signing their wedding certificate. A delicious dinner was served followed by a live music and some surprise videos from their friends displayed on screen, all in a very festive and warm atmosphere. Our sincere congratulations to Melinda and Andrew! Thank you for having chosen Dajuma for this so important event in life!
One of our “Dajuma Experiences” particularly appreciated by our guests is a lunch in the pure Balinese tradition. We prepare this unique experience on the occasion of our farming and plantation tours. For the farming tour, the lunch takes place in the middle of the rice fields as shown on the picture, whereas, for the plantation one, the pique-nique is held in the mountain with a breathtaking view of the ocean. In both cases, the food is prepared and cooked by our local friends from the nearby villages. The various foods that are served are really like what the local people are serving at home for their family. In the rice farming tour the dishes are presented in the “Kubu” (small gazebo) and guest really enjoy a delicious lunch with beautiful scenery and fresh air of the rice terraces. In both cases, the award is based on an in-depth analysis of our situation in terms of satisfaction of our guests and travel industry professionals. HotelsCombined is an Australian-based company which collected 563 reviews about Dajuma leading to a 9.2 out of 10 rating. For its part, TripExpert states that “fewer than 2% of hotels worldwide receive their award which is based on 1 million reviews from 85 publications such as travel guides, magazines, newspapers” .

Jembrana, the Bali regency where Dajuma is located, is known as “Gumi Makepung” since it owns the one and only bull-race (read Makepung) in Bali. Another thing that makes Jembrana become one of the place that you should visit is the traditional workshop of hand-made fabric. Jembrana has 2 kinds of fabric called Endek and Songket. On the picture is one of our guest Denise who enjoyed practicing the endek weaving, during her half day trip to discover West Bali.

Last week we welcomed 2 yoga groups. The first one from Austria, driven by Monika, came with 8 members for the fourth time since 2015. They practiced yoga twice every day (morning & afternoon). We also arranged special “Melukat” / Water Blessing Ceremony as their special request.
The second group was Elitsa’s group from Bulgaria, with 19 participant for their first time in Dajuma. They did yoga once a day, and enjoyed a lot our massages at our spa during their spare time. For other groups who would like to come, we are pleased to offer specific arrangements such as ceremonies, special decorations, events, tours, etc.).
We just completed the renovation of our cottages. Under the direction of Muri (pictured, second from the right) a team of skilled workers have completely renovated – floor-to-ceiling -, bedroom, bathroom and terrace so as to make our cottages even more comfortable. A big change has been made in the bathroom, now open on nature with its freestanding bathtub, its two basins, its suspended toilet, its private garden and its outdoor shower. What a pleasure to take a shower under the stars! Our regular customers have all acclaimed this renovation. We hope you will be of the same opinion during your next stay!
