Cape Dajuma: a natural wonder

24 February 2020/in Beach, Dajuma, News, West Bali

A particularity of Dajuma is its cape which extends full west over 300 meters at sea. It is an amazing place to walk in direct contact with nature. Of volcanic origin, it reveals at low tide an incredibly rich underwater life which fascinates adults as well as children. And at the end of it, you will be totally surprised with the discovery, on foot dry, of beautiful corals, in full health. To discover absolutely next time you visit us again!

WORLD CLEANUP DAY AT DAJUMA

23 September 2019/in Beach, Eco-Resort, Nature, News, Social Responsibility, West Bali

For the second consecutive year, the World Cleanup Day took place in Bali like everywhere in the world, on September 21st. Born from an Estonian initiative in 2018 and from previous successes of global cleaning efforts, the World Cleanup Day is aimed at combating the global solid waste problem, including the marine debris. In Bali this year, 9 cities held a cleaning activity simultaneously from 7 to 9 o’clock on this date. As shown on the pictures, some of our team did participate to the cleaning of Delod Berawah Beach (near by the buffalo race circuit). It was initiated by the Indonesian national army, government, tourism actors, environmentalists and the civil society, in order to keep Bali green, clean and free from plastic waste. Needless to say that it should not happen once a year, but everyday, as we do in Dajuma!

THE SEASON OF OLIVE RIDLEY SEA-TURTLE LAYING EGG

29 April 2019/in Beach, Eco-Resort, Nature, News, Tours, West Bali

From April to November, we are lucky to see each year the laying of sea turtles on the beaches surrounding Dajuma. The eggs are quickly brought to the sea turtle conservatory in Perancak that we support for years. After 50 to 70 days the eggs hatch in a protected place, giving birth to baby turtles. Our customers and especially children are always very excited to follow the process until the birth of baby turtles. And what an emotion when you take into your hands these beings still so fragile to put them to sea safely!

WAR IS DECLARED ON PLASTIC IN BALI BY 4OCEANS

22 January 2019/in Beach, Eco-Resort, Nature, News, Social Responsibility, West Bali

A wonderful initiative was taken 2 years ago by 2 young surfers Alex and Andrew who decided to found 4OCEANS. In less than 2 years they have been able to create a fleet of boats and trucks aimed at collecting the rubbish everywhere around the island. Easy to recognise on the beach with their blue clothes, 4OCEANS volunteers do clean the beach between Medewi and Dajuma twice a week, hence completing what our own staff is doing every day. We can help them growing by buying on line a nice bracelet http://www.4ocean.com.
Thank you so much Alex and Andrew for your initiative!

HOW TO BUILD A PRAO?

7 January 2019/in Beach, News, People, West Bali

With the rainy season, the rivers in Bali are purged of their dead wood which land a few days after on the beaches. This is what happened this week in Dajuma. By chance, a mango tree trunk, long and massive enough, failed on our beach to the delight of the local fishermen who decided to make a new prao of it. Still a lot of work in perspective but time is not really a problem in Bali! Good luck guys!

DAJUMA EXPERIENCE: FISHING OFFSHORE

6 November 2018/in Beach, Dajuma, Fishing, News, Restaurant, Sport, West Bali

Dajuma is located next door the fishermen village of Pekutatan and our beach supervisor Jupry, himself son of fisherman, is always happy to invite our guests to go fishing offshore. This is what happened last monday, when our repeater guest Bastian from Germany embarked with Jupry on a traditional praho very early in the morning around 6 a.m., enjoying a beautiful sunrise on the ocean. Bastian was lucky enough to catch a big mackerel fish and he asked our kitchen team to cook it for his dinner. Well done Bastian and Selamat Makan!

DAJUMA BEACHES

8 October 2018/in Beach, Dajuma, News, Sport, Surfing, West Bali

Our guests are often posing the question: “Is it safe to swim in the sea from Dajuma? And what kind of beach is it, sand or rocks? And what kind of sand? Very important questions when you plan to stay for some days isn’t it?
Let’s answer as precisely as possible: yes it is possible to swim in the sea as long as you respect the warning flag (yellow=go, red=nogo). We recommend to swim on the West beach which is very safe for swimming, surfing and bodyboarding. Despite the fact the East beach is everyday used by local lobsters fishermen, we do not recommend to swim there because of currents.
Depending on the tides, the sand of our beaches is either volcanic or coral-sand i.e. either dark or light as shown on the picture. In both cases, it is very soft under your feet with no risk to be hurt during your swimming sessions. Last but not least, just in front of Dajuma is a cape which discovers itself on 200 meters at each low tide, a true paradise for kids (and birds…) who would like to discover the underwater life. It is also the preferred place of local fishermen fishing from the seashore. See you soon in our swimming paradise!

BUFFALOS TAKING THEIR BATH

13 February 2018/in Beach, News, Tours, West Bali

This emblematic animal from Bali is used to take a bath every day in the river close to Dajuma. Driven to the river by our neighbor farmer they spend quite a long time in the water with their babies. Just by looking at them, we can see how good they feel. The farmer says that  « it is a tradition in Bali to bath the buffalos because they like it and feel good after. And a buffalo feeling good is a buffalo who works well ». Next time you go strolling on the West beach in the direction of Medewi surfing spot just before sunset, don’t miss this spectacle : it is really something to see !

5 YEARS…

29 January 2018/in Beach, Dajuma, News

Prominent on the sea with its special rocky landscape, the beach in front of Dajuma is often the place where people like to contemplate, to share wishes or to recollect after a decease.
Last Monday was the 5th anniversary about Indra’s accident, on a Monday afternoon too.
Indra’s wife and daughters as well as his close friends and colleagues were happy to gather with offerings to remember about him and his central place in Dajuma’s story during 12 years.
Om shanti shanti shanti.

DAJUMA BEACHES

11 December 2017/in Beach, Dajuma, News, Sport, West Bali

Rare are the beaches in the world where you can walk for miles without being bothered by the crowds and beach sellers. This is however the case for the beaches surrounding Dajuma, so appreciated by our customers. On the West side, this is a sandy beach very safe for swimming and surfing. A little bit further, the famous Medewi surfing spot. On the East side, another sandy beach is 20 km long where swimming is not recommended on the first 300 meters because of the currents. But after that, it is just paradise for swimmers, fishermen and body-boarders. Just try, we are sure you will like it! On the picture Evelyn strolling in the sunset on the East beach.
