“BETTER BREATHING” AT DAJUMA

Have you ever heard about the « WIM HOF METHOD » (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaMjhwFE1Zw)? We were very pleasantly surprised when, last week-ned, our good friend Alex, founder of BookGreener, offered to our guests a very interesting workshop about this method and the way to improve our breathing with a lot of positive consequences on our bodies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BlKONskhK0). All participants were absolutely astonished by the outcome of the workshop: a really good feeling, most of them being able to double or even triple their breath capacity after only 30 mn exercising, up to 4’30” for one of them. But this « Better Breathing » step is just the beginning of a long and exciting story. Next step of the method consists in cold exposure by plunging your body into a cold bath, with even better positive effects on your body. WORLD CLEAN UP DAY

As waste management is progressing in Bali, Puri Dajuma took the opportunity to be an actor in Jembrana regency on the occasion of last Saturday’s worldwide “Clean Up Day”.
Located just after the well known Medewi surf break, Yeh Sumbul’s large beach was the place chosen for this event.
Here gathered in a friendly atmosphere, villagers, hotels employees from Pekutatan and Medewi, guests, students and teachers from the Junior High school. After they added pieces of garbage on several heaps, the participants had some food and beverage while listening the speeches from the authorities about the sense of this great day.
On the picture the Dajuma team wears its large specific juter bags made on purpose to replace plastic bags.
Thanks to our 8 pillars eco-policy (http://www.dajuma.com/#eco-resort) we do our utmost to limit our impact on our exceptional environment. But, to be honest, it is not always easy because so many wrappings made of plastic are still in use in the daily life of Balinese. It is particularly true for straws: we already exchanged them for bamboo straws some years ago. Every friday, our staff also cleans all around the resort involving as much as possible the villages’ young generations. But there is still a long way to go…

PERFECT RELAX IN DAJUMA GARDEN

Facing the ocean, full west, Dajuma garden offers on more than 300 meters along the beach, a lot a locations where to relax and embrace an amazing environment: hammocks, long chairs, swings, gazebos are at your disposal in the most comfortable way,  to enjoy the always active beach with its fishermen, farmers washing their buffalos, local families bathing in volcano natural holes, surfers, tides and hundreds of birds. Sometimes when the full moon approaches, one can also see ceremonies on the beach always captivating to watch. You should try!

BALI ECO STAY – BOOKGREENER MEETING

Last month took place the gathering of the members of Bookgreener network in the beautiful place of Bali Eco Stay. Warmly welcome by its owner John and Alex founder of Bookgreener, 30 representatives of various eco-resorts and hotels in Bali were happy to meet and share experiences in terms of sustainable development practices. Created in 2014 by Alex Tsuk, Bookgreener is aimed at fostering sustainable practices in the accomodation industry. And the least we can say is that this noble goal has been more than achieved in less than 2 years with a lot of eco-friendly practices spread around the members of Bookgreener such as the recycling of plastic, the Bali refill program to save water, organic food and many other things. We are really happy and proud to be part of this original initiative. Thank you Alex and John!

DAJUMA IS PART OF THE TOP 16 BEST RESORTS IN BALI

India is a fast-growing market in the hospitality industry. Year after year, Dajuma welcomes more and more guests from this beautiful country. They find in Bali the same cultural roots and enjoy a lot balinese life and traditions. Last week we were very surprised to appear on one of the biggest tourism portals of India called https://www.thrillophilia.com/resorts-in-bali  as part of the top 16 best resorts in Bali, beside famous names such as Four Seasons, Ayana Resort, Anantara or Alila. A very pleasant surprise which rewards the continuous efforts of our staff and their total commitment to excellence. Well done guys!

COMPOSTING AT DAJUMA

As part of our eco-policy, composting is a must! By the action of bacteria and other micro-organisms over a period of time, we can eliminate 80% of the waste generated by our kitchens and the maintenance of our gardens. Many types of organic matter such as leaves, fruit and vegetable peelings, animal residues contribute to making a good compost. The end of the process after 3 to 6 weeks is very different from the original materials. It is dark brown, crumbly with a pleasant smell and used to fertilize the garden. But making compost in tropical areas is not so easy. After having carefully studied the possibilities, our gardeners team decided to go ahead by installing a compost area which is now fully operational since the beginning of June. We hope that this experience will generate many other similar installations in the village and beyond. Well done guys!

« For a Better World » is the slogan of Ecozine, a magazine which reaches 50’000 readers every month and is recognised as the comprehensive eco lifestyle resource for Asia.
In their last issue, they feature a travel article about the “Top 11 Eco Beach Holidays” among which Puri Dajuma (which is not located in Ubud as stated in the article but in Pekutatan, West Bali !).
Eco consciousness and sustainability become key factors in the tourism industry and we are proud to have chosen this way since the creation of the resort in 2002.
Today we are expanding the resort with 4 new villas and a huge swimming pool by respecting the most stringent rules in terms of environmental protection and energy saving. We will tell you more in a few weeks! Stay tuned!

Recycling bottles in Dajuma

Recycling bottles in Bali is not a breeze! It’s even a real concern for many hotels around the island. Until recently, there was no possibility to rely on either a private or a public company to collect empty glass bottles.
2 years ago, under the pressure of their professional clients, the main suppliers of soft drinks and beer decided to set-up a recycling process, by organising with their own means the collect and the further treatment of these empty bottles.
But so far, no solution for the bottles of wine.
So, we decided to acquire from New Zealand a machine especially dedicated to the recycling of glass bottles. The result is just spectacular: in a few seconds, any kind of glass bottle is transformed into a soft sand which can be immediately be re-used in the construction field or put on the beach. Really impressive! Our sincere thanks to the company (www.expleco.com) which designed such a useful tool!

Thanks to a close cooperation with Greenpearls (http://www.greenpearls.com/) and after a stringent evaluation performed by TÜV Nord and the WWF, our hotel has been selected among the top 10 in the category Travel of the prestigious Green Tec Award 2015.
