FLORAL ART AT DAJUMA

2 June 2025/in News

Floral art is an essential part of Balinese culture, blending beauty, spirituality, and tradition in every petal and leaf. At both Dajuma Beach and Dajuma Terrace, this enchanting practice is brought to life daily by our dedicated staff, who create intricate offerings and decorations that grace temples, pathways, and guest rooms. To the great joy of our guests, we offer a special workshop every Monday in Dajuma Beach and every Thursday in Dajuma Terrace where they are invited to learn the traditional techniques of Balinese floral decoration. Guided by our staff, our guests discover the meaning behind each element—color, shape, and placement—while crafting their own canang sari offerings and flower arrangements. It’s a moment of creativity and connection, offering insight into the spiritual heart of Bali and allowing guests to take part in a living tradition that continues to thrive in our resorts. A truly memorable experience that combines hands-on learning with cultural immersion.

Last Saturday, our temple in Dajuma Beach held its  annual ceremony. The event began at 5 PM, just as the sun starts to soften over the horizon. Devotees and locals gathered with joy, dressed in colorful ceremonial attire. Each step of the sacred ritual was followed with reverence and heartfelt enthusiasm. A special highlight was the purification ritual, performed on the beach at sunset.

NYEPI CELEBRATION AT DAJUMA

31 March 2025/in News

Nyepi, Bali’s Day of Silence, took place on March 29th, bringing the entire island to a standstill. This sacred Hindu celebration marks the Balinese New Year with a full day of self-reflection, silence, and meditation. From sunrise to sunrise, no one is allowed to leave their homes, work, or even use lights, creating an atmosphere of deep introspection. The airport, roads, and businesses shut down completely, making Bali the quietest place on Earth. The day before, vibrant Ogoh-Ogoh parades fill the streets with giant demon effigies, symbolizing the cleansing of negative energies. On Nyepi itself, people fast, pray, and contemplate their actions over the past year. It is a time to reconnect with oneself and nature while seeking harmony with the universe. Even our guests must respect the silence, experiencing an unparalleled moment of peace. Nyepi is not just a religious ritual—it’s a powerful reminder to pause, reflect, and renew.

TUMPEK LANDEP CEREMONY

24 February 2025/in News

Tumpek Landep is a significant Balinese Hindu ceremony held every 210 days, specifically on the Saturday of the Landep week. The term “Landep” translates to “sharp,” highlighting the focus on honoring and purifying metal objects. Originally dedicated to ancestral heirlooms like “keris“, daggers and spears, the scope of Tumpek Landep has expanded to include modern metal items such as cars, motorcycles, and even computers. On this day, Balinese family gather to clean and decorate their metal possessions, offering prayers and blessings to Sang Hyang Pasupati, the deity believed to govern all metal objects and tools. The rituals aim to ensure the safety, functionality, and longevity of these items, reflecting a deep respect for the tools that support daily life and craftsmanship. Beyond honoring physical objects, Tumpek Landep serves as a time for self-reflection and spiritual growth. The “sharpness” theme extends metaphorically to the mind, encouraging individuals to seek clarity, wisdom, and moral discernment. This dual focus on material and spiritual aspects underscores the holistic nature of Balinese culture, where the physical and metaphysical realms are intricately connected. Tumpek Landep beautifully embodies Bali’s unique culture, celebrating the sacred bond between humans, their tools, and the divine. It nurtures a deep sense of community, gratitude, and spiritual harmony.

In the heart of West Bali lies the exhilarating tradition of Makepung, the Buffalo races. These races, deeply rooted in Balinese heritage, showcase the strength and agility of these magnificent creatures. Last week, two of our fortunate guests Natasha and Brett had the privilege of witnessing the pre-championship qualification event, a spectacle of raw energy and skill.
The buffaloes, adorned in intricate and vibrant decorations, captivated the audience with their majestic presence. As they thundered across the muddy tracks, cheered on by enthusiastic spectators, the air was filled with excitement and anticipation. The Makepung races offer a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Balinese traditions, where every moment is infused with joy and color. From the rhythmic pounding of hooves to the resounding cheers of the crowd, the atmosphere was electric with energy. It’s a celebration of community spirit and agricultural prowess, where farmers come together to showcase the fruits of their labor. For our guests, it was an unforgettable experience, a window into the soul of West Bali.
Makepung is not just a race; it’s a testament to the enduring spirit of Balinese culture, a tradition passed down through generations. Indeed, it’s a joyful and colorful show that should never be missed.

BALI CELEBRATES NYEPI ON MARCH 11th

11 March 2024/in News

Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, is a sacred tradition observed annually, marking the start of the Hindu New Year. During Nyepi, the island comes to a complete standstill, with no activities, lights, or sounds allowed, allowing for self-reflection and purification. It’s a time for introspection, meditation, and spiritual renewal amidst the serene beauty of Bali. This year’s Nyepi coincides closely with Galungan and Kunigan, a rare alignment that enhances the festive atmosphere. Our esteemed guests, Mr. and Mrs. Prosser, were delighted to immerse themselves in the local culture by visiting a village school. Everywhere they looked, they witnessed the bustling activity of constructing the emblematic Ogoh-Ogoh shown on the picture. These sculptures represent evil spirits or demons and are usually paraded through the streets accompanied by loud noises and chanting to drive away evil forces before the silent day of Nyepi begins. It’s a fascinating and vibrant cultural tradition in Bali. And for our guests, It was a precious moment of communal engagement and cultural exchange, fostering a deep sense of connection and appreciation.

HAPPY GALUNGAN & KUNINGAN

4 March 2024/in News

Galungan and Kuningan are two of the most significant Hindu festivals celebrated in Bali. Galungan marks the victory of dharma (good) over adharma (evil) and is celebrated with great fervor. During this ten-day festival, Balinese Hindus visit temples, make offerings, and engage in various cultural activities.
Kuningan, which falls ten days after Galungan, signifies the day when ancestral spirits return to heaven after visiting the earth during Galungan. It’s a time for prayers, offerings, and expressing gratitude to ancestors.
Puri Dajuma offers a unique experience during these festivals. With its serene ambiance and traditional Balinese architecture, Puri Dajuma provides a tranquil setting for guests to immerse themselves in the cultural festivities. From participating in temple visits to enjoying traditional Balinese dances and music, our guests can truly embrace the spirit of Galungan and Kuningan while experiencing the warmth of Balinese hospitality.
