ANNUAL CEREMONY OF DAJUMA BEACH TEMPLE

14 April 2025/in News

Last Saturday, our temple in Dajuma Beach held its  annual ceremony. The event began at 5 PM, just as the sun starts to soften over the horizon. Devotees and locals gathered with joy, dressed in colorful ceremonial attire. Each step of the sacred ritual was followed with reverence and heartfelt enthusiasm. A special highlight was the purification ritual, performed on the beach at sunset.
Our guests were thrilled to witness such a powerful display of Balinese culture. They expressed deep appreciation for the authenticity and spiritual atmosphere. The ceremony concluded around 9 PM, under a sky full of stars and offerings.
It was a magical evening that brought the entire community together in harmony.

TUMPEK LANDEP CEREMONY

24 February 2025/in News

Tumpek Landep is a significant Balinese Hindu ceremony held every 210 days, specifically on the Saturday of the Landep week. The term “Landep” translates to “sharp,” highlighting the focus on honoring and purifying metal objects. Originally dedicated to ancestral heirlooms like “keris“, daggers and spears, the scope of Tumpek Landep has expanded to include modern metal items such as cars, motorcycles, and even computers. On this day, Balinese family gather to clean and decorate their metal possessions, offering prayers and blessings to Sang Hyang Pasupati, the deity believed to govern all metal objects and tools. The rituals aim to ensure the safety, functionality, and longevity of these items, reflecting a deep respect for the tools that support daily life and craftsmanship. Beyond honoring physical objects, Tumpek Landep serves as a time for self-reflection and spiritual growth. The “sharpness” theme extends metaphorically to the mind, encouraging individuals to seek clarity, wisdom, and moral discernment. This dual focus on material and spiritual aspects underscores the holistic nature of Balinese culture, where the physical and metaphysical realms are intricately connected. Tumpek Landep beautifully embodies Bali’s unique culture, celebrating the sacred bond between humans, their tools, and the divine. It nurtures a deep sense of community, gratitude, and spiritual harmony.

KRISNA’S CEREMONY

17 June 2024/in News

The ceremony held in honor of Krisna, our colleague Erik’s son, for his 3-month anniversary was a vibrant celebration steeped in Balinese tradition. Friends and family gathered to mark this significant milestone, reflecting the community’s deep-rooted customs. The event was graced by the presence of Rindik musicians who usually perform to entertain the invited guests during the reception day and also to accompany the ceremony day. Its gentle tones are believed to invoke a sense of balance and harmony within the participants, connecting them spiritually with the natural world and the deities in Bali’s rich cultural tradition. Offerings of fruits, flowers, and rice were meticulously prepared, embodying gratitude and blessings. The elders imparted their wisdom and prayers, bestowing good fortune upon the young child. This 3-month ceremony was not just a family event but a communal celebration, highlighting the importance of cultural heritage in Bali. Long life to you Krisna!

THE PUNYA FAMILY IN CELEBRATION

26 June 2023/in News

Last week, the family of Punya, our neighbour and member of our security team, was honored with 2 particularly important ceremonies, touching their 2 sons Calvin and Mang Ari. For both of them, the famous Mepandes ceremony was organized first. It consists in ensuring the filing of the canines, a highly symbolic gesture since it marks the passage to adulthood and authorizes marriage. As soon as this was done, Calvin immediately proceeded to marry the beautiful Eva. The day before the ceremony, they invited all friends and neighbours to share a moment with the family. As one of the staff of Puri Dajuma, Punia also invited all members of Dajuma staff to come to their house. Congratulations to the parents and the happy couple!

FULL MOON CELEBRATION

11 April 2023/in News

Last Wednesday, on April 5th, Dajuma and the nearby temple of Rambut Siwi held the Purnama or Full Moon Ceremony which takes place every month and is believed to purify body and soul.
The Balinese believe that during the full moon the spirits of their ancestors return to the island. They light candles and incense to guide them home and offer prayers for their blessings and guidance. The full moon ceremony in Bali is not just a religious event; it is a celebration of life and culture that is of great interest to our guests. In the photo, Dajuma staff in prayer in front of the hotel’s temple.

19 July 2021/in News

This week a major event occurred near Dajuma, at the very sacred temple of Rambut Siwi, the famous temple of the lock of hair. Event that only takes place every 38 years called “Kaya Agung Menawa Ratna” and which is supposed to remind humans we are that we live in a finite world where health and prosperity are not a given. NYEPI IS COMING SOON

8 March 2021/in News

Nyepi is fast approaching. On March 15th a new year will begin in Bali, preceded by the famous “day of silence”. It is celebrated every Isakawarsa (Saka New Year) according to the Balinese calendar. It is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese. A lot of rituals are part of the celebration of Nyepi Day. The most famous is Ogoh-ogoh and the Melasti (purification ceremony). Because of the pandemic, the celebration of Nyepi has been restricted, all the ritual must be done by a limited number of persons, people cannot get involved and must pray from their family temple. Despite these restrictions, Nyepi remains a major moment in Balinese life and a fascinating experience for foreigners visiting Bali. Dajuma is the perfect place where to celebrate Nyepi. We prepared a specific package which will help you discovering this so special tradition, unique in the world.
Happy Nyepi Day and Happy New Year Saka 1943.

Happy Wedding Wayan, Congratulations, Bulleh and Family!

4 January 2021/in News

At the end of 2020, one of our family at Dajuma, Sumawa also known as Bulleh and his wife shared a great moment of their son’s wedding. The wedding took place at one of supreme priest house in Yeh Embang Village.  Due to the pandemic, the wedding was held simply, no crowded party and has been following the health protocol recommended by the authorities.

Bulleh’s son, Wayan Wiranata was a former trainee at our restaurant. He married Ni Kadek Fitriani Dewi. Their wedding ceremony was a bit different, since Fitriani is muslim. She had to do one step called Sudi Widani ceremony before the wedding. By performing this ceremony she has legally become a Hindu.

As usual, one day before the wedding day, the other Dajuma’s family attended the wedding reception, to congratulate the couple and their family. In normal situation, we usually invite our guests to participate in such a ceremony nearby the hotel, to immerge in the so rich Balinese culture and surrounding people.

It took place at Satria Mandala Stadium in Pekutatan, 10 minutes from Dajuma, from November 7th to 10th, 2019 with the participation of 200 students. Each group built a beautiful and well decorated tent. This event had a lot of competitive activities such as traditional games, preparation of Hindu ceremonies, cooking traditional cuisine, Balinese decoration, Balinese story-telling, painting, writing Balinese letters in sanscrit, art performances, etc. In front of the tent of each group, they also prepared a small exhibition of local handicraft. This event aims at fostering the preservation of Balinese culture in all Hindu students, in particular two major features of hinduism which are love and responsibility. Using our free shuttle service, one of our guest, Birgit visited this event. She was happy to meet the students and discover their creativity and commitment to Hinduism. Well done guys!
