PLASTIC RECYCLING IN BALI: A REVOLUTION…

Located in Tabanan, only 1 hour drive from Dajuma, is this new and unique company in Indonesia, called ENVIRO PALLETS which is able to recycle any plastic waste into pallets weighing 14 kg each, able to carry 4 tons without moving, 1,2 ton when moving. Originated from New Zealand and working with a patented process owned by Range International, this company produces already 500 to 600 pallets per day and they plan to have another factory in Surabaya. Their pallets are less expensive than the wood ones (good to know that 41% of the wood cut in the world is used to produce 4,6 billions of wood pallets and similar products every year!) They have already customers  abroad like Coca-Cola worldwide including another product for bottle cases. They buy the clean plastic only: 2000 Rp per kilo for the best quality (A) to 500 Rp for the worst one (D). But It is still hard for them to collect the plastic in Bali. We will do our best to promote this fantastic opportunity in Bali which completes our in house recycling process for glass bottles already operational.  It also makes our plastic recycling greener by avoiding to send our plastic to Java which was the case before.

A few steps from your room is the West sandy beach, just perfect for learning this beautiful sport. Jupry, our beach supervisor born in the nearby village, practices surfing since his childhood and will be delighted to accompany you.
After a few hours of learning, you will be able to discover the famous surfing spot of Medewi,  where surfers from all around the world are used to compete. Medewi is located  a few minutes from our place, accessible either by foot along the beach, by boat or by car. A free shuttle is at the disposal of our guests in this respect.

Launching of the 2016 Buffalo races season!

Jembrana’s Buffalo races are one of the major attractions in West Bali. This tradition takes place only during dry season. The racing buffaloes, called Kerbau Pepadu, and their carts have been carefully decorated for weeks by farmers. Wearing silk banners and wooden bells, and having their horns painted, buffaloes will have to face a 2 kilometers race. Competitors are divided in two groups coming from opposite sides of the river. They are easily recognizable: North river group wearing red colors and South river group wearing green ones. Farmers come to race for honor, pride and the trophy, rather than for money. Thus it is both a colorful show and an exciting competition that can gather more than 250 pairs of buffaloes. The opening race will take place on July 17th!

FAREWELL DEAREST FRIEND EDI

We were so impressed when we met Edi a few weeks ago. From his own house in Gumbrih village, located ten minutes from Puri Dajuma, this  handsome and friendly young man aged 36,  was taking  care of any wild animal in danger. Of the babies when their parents have been killed like civette babies, of the bats, monkeys or wild cats.
But I Putu Agus Edi Darmawan was before all known as a snake specialist. He joined the rescue snakes organization in Bali. He always helped people around to catch the snakes and release them to their natural habitat in the forest. He also taught the people to identify the snakes, poisonous or not, handle them without killing them. He also spread information about them through a document explaining why snakes are useful in nature, which ones are dangerous or harmless and what to do in case of bite.

Today the West Bali community is very sad because Edi passed away a couple of days ago, bitten by a king cobra at Pangyangan village. It happened  when he fell accidently holding in his hands the snake just captured.
Our sincere condolences to his wife and his fourteen years old daughter. The cremation ceremony will be conducted on Tuesday 19th April 2016.

Last Tuesday took place a great commemoration on the large beach just in front of Puri Dajuma.
It was 60 years when Lt Col I Gusti Ngurah Raï landed here with his soldiers from East Java, after the Dutch army blocked the access to Bali in Gilimanuk.
Native from Bali from the warrior Ksatriya caste, Ngurah RaÏ formed and commanded the Ciung Wanara regiment, the first official military force in Bali following Indonesia’s independence in 1945.
The inscription on the monument boat constructed there and recently refurbished by Puri Dajuma: “returning home after reporting to the republic’s leadership in Yogya” clearly refers to the meeting in Yogyakarta, Central Java, during which Ngurah Raï was tasked with leading the resistance in Bali.
5 APRIL 1946
The regiment spearheaded the guerrilla resistance in Bali against the better-armed forces that tried to bring Indonesia under Dutch rule. They perished at Margarana (Tabanan district) 20th of November 1946.
Gathering between the hotel’s lawn and the monument boat, veterans with their orange caps, young people with their green caps from the Indonesian army, military and civil authorities could share this important page of Indonesia’s history, and the guests enjoy it.

A MUST IN WEST BALI: THE JEMBRANA CUP 2015

Puri Dajuma is ideally located to enjoy a specific entertainment from the Jembrana regency: the buffalo races, called « Mekepung ».
On a basis of two races a week during the dry season, it is great to attend this beautiful and colorful show, after getting up early as it is over at 10.30.
Every team, from the driver in balance on the painted wooden yoke, to the buffaloe harnesses, is finely decorated.
Yesterday took place the final race, the most important of the year with one hundred competitors after selection.
The winner received the cup and awards including money from the Jembrana Bupati’s hands.
As the track is close to the sea, it is also great to see the buffaloes pampered by the farmers, then bathing in the shining ocean of the west coast.
A genuine popular atmosphere all along, where the photographers are used to shoot memorable pictures.

Puri Dajuma has been chosen by the editor of Yo Donna magazine to illustrate the beauty of Balinese architecture through its outstanding beachfront Pondok Segara villa.
The Yo Donna magazine is the women supplement of the renowned Spanish newspaper El Mundo which is the second largest printed daily newspaper in Spain.

Located a few distance from Dajuma is the outstanding surfing spot of Medewi.
Last week-end, on Oct 31st and Nov 1st, Medewi Boardriders in Association with the Jembrana Government organised the “Jembrana Open Of Surfing” competition, with 40million in prize money on offer. The contest is a national one and attracts every year hundreds of surfers from all around the world.
