Dajuma is a great place to bring family together to immortalize a special moment. One of the latest was the 80th Birthday of Mister Bohre. His 4 sons together with their wife’s and grandchildren asked Dajuma to prepare a private evening. At low tide the beach is one of the perfect place to arrange a table decorated by our gardeners and maintenance staff. Gambalan music was played and young dancers performed for the family. All were delighted. Long life to Mister Bohre.
Jegog instruments were created in Negara in 1912. They became very popular among local people to celebrate the harvest time. Today Jegog are used during wedding ceremonies and Saturday night’s informal meetings among village people. The instruments are made of bamboo of various sizes, which gives high to low vibrations. Jegog music is performed regularly at Dajuma during evening dinners on the grass. Dancers will come and perform traditional dances. After the show people are invited to play on the instruments. All musicians come from the nearby villages where they are occupied during the day with other activities such as farming. A great moment to share with them, for all and especially families.

The evening was festive, entertained by our traditional Jegog Group and dancers. The wedding cake was prepared by one of our local pastry artisan. No doubt, if there is one flower which people remember after visiting Bali, is frangipani flower. This well-known flower is used to enhance women beauty by putting it into their hair over their ears. Dancers use it to adorn their headdress and men pray with it. Nowadays the flowers are also collected and dried before selling it to incense and aromatherapy oil manufacturers. The flowers bloom in their full potential from July to November. There is over 400 varieties of frangipani, 200 of which were imported from Thailand and Hawaii. They range from yellow to white and pink to red. Dajuma garden is mainly composed of yellow to white, which you can contemplate in a clear blue sky all day long during your stay.
Dajuma paradise is the perfect place to learn about boutique hotel management. We were pleased to have with us Nouria, a young lady who is studying in one of the prestigious hotel school in Switzerland. Nouria is half way with her three years program and brought with her an interesting knowledge about hotel activities and exchange with all Dajuma staff during her one-month stay. She bring back with her the Balinese touch which and could apply some of it with her next employer. We wish Nouria all the best and a great challenge for the future.
Dajuma is just beside the famous Medewi break. If you are not familiar with surfing and do not want to adventure yourself in this intermediary break, no problem we have the solution. We have an agreement with Medewi surfers, who will be delighted to give you lessons. No matters your level. Beginners will practice in the safe water, with sand bottom, just 50m from Dajuma. If you are intermediary, we will shuttle you to Medewi Break where the teacher will wait for you. Shuttle between Dajuma and Madewi is free for all Dajuma guests. For any reservation, please just ask the reception who will call the teacher to know the best time to stand the wave. We have Dajuma fashionable rash guards that you can buy from our shop. Get one as souvenir and wear it back in your country. You will be fashionably Dajuma.
Dajuma location is just perfect to watch skilled traditional fishermen. Watch them carefully… At the beginning of high tide they come discretely walking in the ocean at knee level scrutinizing the horizon where a mixed of current and waves will trap small group of fish up to 20 cm in length. When close enough, the fisherman throws his net with a twist creating a circle, due to metal pieces attached all around the extremities of the fishing net. The net immerses itself and traps the fish. The throw needs to be accurate and sharp the fisherman’s eyes. This type of fishing is practiced by only a few men. Hope it will be transferred to other generation. They will be delighted to show you how to do. Ready for a challenge!
Music is a major part of Balinese lifestyle and education. Every village has its own Gamelan orchestra which is accompanied by dancers who practice since childhood. Instruments can not be separated. They are kept by the community and handed on each new generation. Gamelan performs for show but also for rituals and ceremonies. Every week during high season Dajuma prepares diner on the grass to enjoy Pekutatan Gamelan show. Guests will be explained the performance meaning and invited to dance with the artists. They will be provided with a bamboo instrument called “Kul Kul” to experience this amazing feeling when dancers and musicians follow a crescendo rhythm. A great moment to share!
Our Rama restaurant has been delighting our guests’ senses for the last 10 years. Gastronomers appreciate our talented chef who prepares any tasty specialty ranging from typical Balinese food to Western favorites. As cooking is definitely part of the Balinese culture, our Chef invites anyone willing to share his talents with him through free of charge cooking lessons. The cooking trainees are only requested to select from the menu the dish they would like to prepare. Then, the Chef looks after the supplies and supervises the ‘trainees’ who later enjoy their ‘home’ made meal from the restaurant terrace standing in the tropical garden along the beach with breathtaking views to the ocean’s tides running back and forth on Dajuma’s cape.
