This New Year celebration has been particularly festive at Dajuma. More than 50 guests enjoyed a delicious typical Balinese dinner served in the garden while 3 orchestras (Jeggog, Gamelan and Gongs) accompanied by Balinese dancers were playing. When midnight approached, all the guests were invited to come on stage to play with the musicians. After the traditional greetings, fireworks were launched from the beach. Thanks to the “weather keepers” from Pekutatan village, the sky remained clear almost all the night. A wonderful moment shared between the guests and the staff. Happy New Year 2014! Selamat Tahun Baru!

Balinese people are famous for their artistical skills and talents. This is very true for major arts such as painting, sculpture, music, dancing. At Dajuma it is also true for gardening. Our chief gardener Anom and his team have created probably one the most beautiful garden where the Dajuma cottages are nestled. Everyday, they clean it meticulously, make the necessary cuts, invent new floral arrangements. Anom is now very busy with the preparation of the New Year festivities. However he found some time to create a beautiful fountain, located nearby the lobby, entirely designed and built by himself and our fisherman neighbor. Many plants, 3 flows of water, fishes and their cave : a small landscape to watch at.

From the cape where Puri Dajuma stretches, one major point of interest is the everyday fishermen activity just besides. The nearby Pulukan river, and the Medewi one at 200 meters west, both going to the bay make it very attracting for the ocean fauna. It is not rare we can even see impressive Manta rays drawn from the sea, but not interesting for the fishermen. By the contrary of the number of excellent kinds of fish, catch from the above colourful traditional “prahos”we can see behind the memorial boat. Fish is then sold directly on the beach, put in insulated boxes and loaded to provide the great Denpasar market and others.

In its eco-policy (http://www.dajuma.com/#eco-resort) Puri Dajuma pays a lot of attention, among other things, to the cleanliness of its natural environment. Every Friday morning, each department delegates 2 of its staff members to participate in the cleaning of the area by collecting all the rubbish mainly brought by the sea, from the East and West beaches up to the main road. This action is not only in favor of the environment but has also a strong connotation with the Balinese belief system called Tri Hita Karana which is centered on maintaining a harmonious relationship with God, People, and Nature. The philosophy of Tri Hita Karana affirms that happiness, prosperity, and peacefulness are attainable when the three elements of God, Human, and Nature coexist in harmony with each other in everyday life. An intense moment of solidarity and harmony between our staff and the nature, often shared with our guests!

Just in front of Dajuma is the beautiful Medewi cape, which not only enchants our guests but also attracts every day a lot of tasty fishes at high tide. The question is then “how to catch them”? 2 techniques are used by local fishermen: the first one consists in launching a small net on the fishes when the high tide is pushing them to the shore. The second one, more traditional is by using fishing rods. As we can see on the picture, the winner yesterday was the fishing net! The fishing rod owner seems to be a little bit disapointed…

Further to his wedding with the delicious Rita and after 3,5 years of loyal service to Dajuma, Michel decided to explore new challenges within Indonesia. All the staff and the management of PT Puri Dajuma would like to congratulate Michel and Rita and wish them happyness, health and success in their common future. During almost 4 years Michel has been very active and successful in his Marketing and Business Development responsibility. To close the celebration of Puri Dajuma 10th anniversary and reward the staff for its dedication and attention to the guests, a special outing took place in two groups of 22 people, during 3 days with the discovery of Jogjakarta and its surroundings. A memorable trip during which the staff was invited to visit the Keraton (the palace of the Sultan of Jogjakarta which was during the guests « Revolusi », from 1946 to 1949, the capital city of Indonesia), the beautiful Candi Burubudur, the most important Buddhist temple in the world re-discovered in 1814 by Sir Raffles and finally the Prambanan complex of Hindu temples. This trip was for Dajuma staff an opportunity to remember that both religions Buddhism and Hinduism were living harmoniously across Java during several centuries a long time ago.

About one hundred people gathered last week-end on Pekutatan west beach, just beside Dajuma, to celebrate the ocean in both religions Hindu and Muslim. On the Hindu side, the ceremony on the beach was the continuation of the temple ceremony that took place at Asah Duren Village (one village near by Puri Dajuma). They bring the symbols of god to be purified by a ceremony on the beach. They also brought various agricultural products taken to the sea by traditional fisherman boat as a symbol of gratitude and thanks to God for all the gifts and prosperity. On the Muslim side, a long speech was given by the local imam. A great moment for the Puri Dajuma guests who could appreciate the rare symbiosis of two religions celebrating at the same time and in the same place the ocean and its benefits.

Dajuma is always delighted to see Peter & Astrid. Our Dutch repeater guests enjoys Dajuma spirit at least once a year and even twice. Their motto, “Why looking for another place when at Dajuma we feel like at home”. Astrid & Peter like to relax and enjoy the maximum time beside the pool on the beachfront. Governors Cup Race 2013

2013 Buffalo race season will end on November 24th, with the Governors Cup Race.  This racing attraction of pair of buffalos remains preserved by farmer’s communities. The racing is not just to win but more intended to give pride to the buffalo owner. Buffalo race is one of the 12 arts categorized into race cultural attraction of Jembrana. Such attraction has been organized since 1920’s, almost simultaneously with the development of the Jegog music. Come spend the weekend at Dajuma. Sunday 24th, we will leave from Dajuma at 8h00am to the racetrack. Another memorable moment of our dear and well preserved West Bali. We are waiting for you.
