FLYING KITES AT DAJUMA
There is a lovely tradition in Bali which consists in flying kites all around the island, all the year long. Since their youngest age, Balinese people are used to practice this activity, starting from the construction of the kite up to tough competitions with a strong moment in the year with the Bali Kite Festival, an annual international kite festival held in Padang Galak area in Sanur. Traditional giant kites (4 meters in width and almost 10 meters in length) are made and flown competitively by teams from the villages (banjar) of Bali. The event is a seasonal religious festival intended to send a message to the Hindu Gods to create abundant crops and harvests.The teams consist of about 70 to 80 people, each team with its own Gamelon band, flag bearers and flyers.

COMPOSTING AT DAJUMA
As part of our eco-policy, composting is a must! By the action of bacteria and other micro-organisms over a period of time, we can eliminate 80% of the waste generated by our kitchens and the maintenance of our gardens. Many types of organic matter such as leaves, fruit and vegetable peelings, animal residues contribute to making a good compost. The end of the process after 3 to 6 weeks is very different from the original materials. It is dark brown, crumbly with a pleasant smell and used to fertilize the garden. But making compost in tropical areas is not so easy. After having carefully studied the possibilities, our gardeners team decided to go ahead by installing a compost area which is now fully operational since the beginning of June. We hope that this experience will generate many other similar installations in the village and beyond. Well done guys!
POOL LIFTING
We recently changed the edge of our 20 x 10 m overflowing swimming pool for a natural stone from India which is just incredibly beautiful : the color of the stone is changing all the time, depending on the light and the quantity of water on it.
From golden irisations to purple reflects passing through silver shimmers, it is a real pleasure to stay on the edge of the pool.

BACK FROM FISHING… AND DIRECT TO YOUR PLATE
A nice spectacle from Dajuma garden, at sunrise or sunset, is the return of prahos coming back from their daily fishing campaign. It is really impressive to see these fragile vessels negotiating the waves to land safely onto the shore next to Dajuma.
The village of Pekutatan where Dajuma is situated is well known for its fishermen: they supply all the area with fresh fish and seafood, including our two restaurants Rama and Sinta.

Congratulations to Eka!
Putu Eka Rahayu Damayanthi is the eldest daughter of three sisters of our late Indra. Since her early childhood, led by her mother Kadek Anggrayani, herself talented dancer, Eka studied the Balinese dances so beautiful to look at but so difficult to execute! Today Eka is a beautiful girl of 17 who studies in senior high school in Negara with very good results. But she also subjugates the spectators who watch in her interpretation of traditional Balinese dances. She used to perform her art in various competitions around the island and in each important event or celebration at Dajuma. Congratulations Dearest Eka!
EXERCISE ON THE BEACH
Every week on Saturday, the children with their teachers come to the beach in front of Dajuma to do exercise.
The pupils come from the kindergarden to the elementary school in Pekutatan called TK Harapan 2. They choose this place because of the nice view and the proximity of the school.

DAJUMA IN ECOZINE MAGAZINE
« For a Better World » is the slogan of Ecozine, a magazine which reaches 50’000 readers every month and is recognised as the comprehensive eco lifestyle resource for Asia.
In their last issue, they feature a travel article about the “Top 11 Eco Beach Holidays” among which Puri Dajuma (which is not located in Ubud as stated in the article but in Pekutatan, West Bali !).
Eco consciousness and sustainability become key factors in the tourism industry and we are proud to have chosen this way since the creation of the resort in 2002.
