Because of its proximity to the cradle of Jegog music, it was natural for Dajuma to invest in one of these beautiful Jegog instruments, made entirely by hand from bamboo and teak wood by skilled craftsmen from the nearby villages. Our guests often ask us to discover the Balinese culture whose music and dance are essential points of reference. Many of our employees know how to play this instrument and are happy to introduce our guests to this special music. Why special? Because it generates sounds and vibrations that touch you deep within yourself.
This new instrument is a useful addition to the Balinese dance classes given every week by the Pekutatan Dance School on the Dajuma stage. We hope you will like it!

Prominent on the sea with its special rocky landscape, the beach in front of Dajuma is often the place where people like to contemplate, to share wishes or to recollect after a decease.
Last Monday was the 5th anniversary about Indra’s accident, on a Monday afternoon too.
Indra’s wife and daughters as well as his close friends and colleagues were happy to gather with offerings to remember about him and his central place in Dajuma’s story during 12 years.

Last week we had the pleasure to welcome the monthly meeting of Bookgreener members which gathers hoteliers in Bali strongly engaged for environmental protection and sustainable tourism.
Every month, under the dynamic guidance of its founder Alex Tsuk, its members like to exchange experiences on various topics. This month, the topic was “How to communicate about Agung Volcano”. 3 internationally known lecturers from Canada (live), Island and Peru (via Skype) brought their experience of managing communication in similar situations of volcano eruptions. A very interesting day of work ponctutated in the middle by a delicious lunch prepared by our French Chef Paul. The day before, our Bookgreener friends were invited to visit some West Bali hidden treasures, its stunning rice fields, the jegog music, the absolutely unique new Green Cliff, Perancak and its beautiful buggies boats and finally the sea turtles conservatory. A nice moment of sharing!

It is already 9 years that the Ijen volcano is worldwide known with its spectacular crater and sulphur extraction on East Java.

And it is 15 years that Puri Dajuma is involved in the great experience of its hiking.

Not so far from Bali straight joining Java by ferryboat during the night, our guests arrive at the basis of “Kawah Ijen” at 3 AM so that they can enjoy together the “blue fire” and the sunrise in the Dante atmosphere of the crater and sulphured green lake. They are always happy to offer some gift to these courageous minors who are able to carry 70 kg on their shoulders.

This week, we decided to publish our blog on the theme “Dajuma Sunsets” but seen from the viewpoint of our guests through their own pictures. Oriented full West the resort presents stunning sunsets which are appreciated by our guests particularly those who like to photograph this natural phenomenon. But the problem is under which angle should we take such picture? Because, from many locations around the resort, the result is different as shown on the photo montage. And that should not stop you from enjoying a good glass of wine. Which angle will be yours?

Big party under the moon last night in Dajuma to celebrate the new year. Our guests have discovered the magic of Balinese dances performed by the young people of the village dance school. They were accompanied by several musicians, the Kembang Rare Group, a gamelan orchestra called Angklung here, that won this year’s Baleganjur Music Competition of the province, and of course the country’s must-have, the famous Jegog and its captivating music made from giant bamboos. With great talent, the singer Oka and her band have musically animated the evening alternating with music and traditional dances, playing the last hits of the moment. On the twelve strokes of midnight, greetings were exchanged between the guests while a fireworks was fired from the beach to the delight of the children present … and their parents. All this around a delicious buffet mixing the best Balinese and French specialties. We take this opportunity to thank you for the trust you have shown us for more than 15 years now and wish you and your loved ones a Happy New Year 2018!

This year, the celebration of Christmas at Dajuma was particularly joyful and animated: large flags at the entrance of the resort, laser show in the garden, Rindik Balinese orchestra, surprise gift to our guests and – cherry on the cake – a gastronomic dinner served under the stars and prepared by our kitchen brigade under the guidance of Paul, a young and talented French chef.

Mouthing: Sweet corn, curry & coconut velouté topped on grilled vegetables
Starter: Fresh red snapper tartare with passion fruit seeds, avocado & bergamot cream

Dajuma is located just next door the fishermen village of Pekutatan. Every morning, our guests can assist to the return of these beautiful prahos which spent all the night long trying to catch fish and seafood. It is a rare moment of sharing with these courageous fishermen who are always happy to talk to our guests, and sometimes invite them to fish. Rare are the beaches in the world where you can walk for miles without being bothered by the crowds and beach sellers. This is however the case for the beaches surrounding Dajuma, so appreciated by our customers. On the West side, this is a sandy beach very safe for swimming and surfing. A little bit further, the famous Medewi surfing spot. On the East side, another sandy beach is 20 km long where swimming is not recommended on the first 300 meters because of the currents. But after that, it is just paradise for swimmers, fishermen and body-boarders. Just try, we are sure you will like it! On the picture Evelyn strolling in the sunset on the East beach.

AGUNG VOLCANO: WHAT’S UP?

It is extremely difficult to predict the behavior of a volcano. As far as Agung Volcano is concerned, the eruptive process already began with 3 eruptions last week. The worst scenario would be a pyroclastic eruption. But this would affect the slopes of the volcano only and for this risk, the authorities have already taken the necessary measures by defining a 7 to 15 km security perimeter around it in order to avoid reproducing the situation of the 1963 eruption where 1100 villagers living on the slopes of the volcano were killed.

Now the question is: should we, as tourists, come to Bali or not?

The answer is definitively yes because the pyroclastic risk is null as long as you respect the security perimeter. The only remaining issue is the cloud of ashes which can disrupt the air traffic. Since the first signs of activity in September, a lot of ashes have already been evacuated and Ngurah Raï airport has re-opened after only a few days of closure. More than 50 cities in the world are living close to an active volcano.

Because of its location 80 km from Agung volcano, the risk of being disturbed in Dajuma is really very weak. Moreover, in case of closure of the airport, we offer free stay for the extra days you would be obliged to spend with us or, if you prefer, we would take care of the re-routing of your flight from Java (Banyuwangi or Surabaya) and organise all the necessary transportation by car.
