This week, we have the immense pleasure of presenting you our new website whose development will have lasted 3 months. We will long remember this version developed during the off-peak weeks of the pandemic!

So what’s new in this new version?

First of all, we wanted to improve the informative and photographic content. This is how all the rooms are now described in detail including a detailed plan of each of them. We did the same for all the other departments of the hotel, catering, spa, garden, nautical activities, excursions, etc. We also highlighted the extraordinary beauty and diversity of West Bali through new photos and inspiring texts. But the most important is our new pricing policy which guarantees the best deal if reservations are made on our website. We have finally given a lot of space to our dear staff and our commitments in favor of our natural and human environment.

Since President Joko Widodo decided in 2016 to establish June 1st as an official public holiday aimed at celebrating the 5 principles of the Pancasila , all institutions of Indonesia are holding special events on this occasion. Pancasila means in sanscrit “Five” (Panca) “Principles” (Sila). It is the official and foundational philosophy of Indonesia based indeed on 5 principles edicted in 1945 by President Sukarno’s in his famous speech “The Birth of Pancasila”.
June 1st is also the restart of all domestic commercial flights, some of them having already restarted in May.
A good opportunity to take a break in the stressful period of the pandemic which definitively shows a slow down everywhere.

PREPARING FOR THE POST-CRISIS WITH A NEW WEBSITE

It’s not easy to turn a major event like the corona virus crisis into an opportunity. However, this is what we are trying to do by keeping the hotel open, by offering our rare guests all of our services and above all, by preparing for the post-pandemic period.
A new website is thus under construction which should be put online soon, reflecting as much as possible what we are and our commitment to the environment. It is thanks to you, dear customers and friends, that for almost 20 years, we have been able to develop a hotel style based on the 3 principles of the Balinese philosophy: harmony with the Gods, with nature and between people.
Now, we dream to come back to the pre-crisis occupancy as shown in the 2 photos of the new terrace of our Rama restaurant: the first was taken this week, the second on New Year. Hopefully our dream come true quickly!

This week, we were lucky to welcome a few guests, happy to swim in our pools without worrying about the distancing rules. Still far from returning to normal, but good in any case for morale!
The other good news is the status of the pandemic in Bali: on May 16, there are only 99 active cases out of 346 in total, with 243 people healed and 4 dead.
An interesting article published by Aljazeera on May 2 finds that there is no visible sign of spread of the pandemic in Bali and wonders about this miracle while the island was still welcoming thousands of Chinese tourists in the beginning of the year. In their investigation, several interesting hypotheses have been put forward that are worth reading.
Either way, Dajuma is holding on thanks to its staff, always as motivated and involved as usual. Simply let us form the wish that all this ends quickly!

THE PEKUTATAN “GREEN WARRIORS”

For more than twenty years we have been traveling around Bali and have seen the remarkable progress made in terms of environmental protection. Paradoxically, the Covid 19 crisis seems to have further accelerated this trend. All villages have now organized to prevent the spread of the virus with masks and hydroalcoholic gel available everywhere. This will undoubtedly have positive effects on the Covid 19 but also on other pathologies. In our village of Pekutatan, a team of volunteers called “Green Warriors” was created to keep the environment clean and green. Usually, they do general cleaning in the village and beaches. In this pandemic situation, they do spraying (with disinfectant liquid) regularly in the villagers houses, public places and they do it also in our hotel every Saturday. Hopefully this trend will continue when the current pandemic is over!

Thanks to the commitment and dedication of our staff, Dajuma keeps open from 7:00 to 23:00 during this so special Covid 19 period. We found the solution to offer to our very rare guests a full service by splitting our 48 employees in 4 groups of 12 people, each group ensuring the job for 1 week. By doing so, not only we keep open all departments (front desk, restaurant, kitchen, housekeeping, maintenance, garden, laundry, and Spa) but our staff can still work and maintain a good spirit among them – while, of course, respecting the necessary social distancing and wearing a mask. We also installed hydroalcoholic dispensers around the resort at the disposal of our staff and our guests and we regularly check the body temperature with appropriate equipment. All health and safety conditions are thus fulfilled in a setting which remains as idyllic as before the crisis. On the picture, Agus and Astari would love to welcome you!

Failing to be able to speak about the news of Dajuma – the hotel being empty – let us give the floor to our dear customers who make us the friendship to visit us regularly, for some of them several times a year. This testimony was sent to us from Australia by email on April 10th:
“My husband & I spent our 50th wedding anniversary in this beautiful place last January. Every person that works there was gentle, caring and exuded peace fullness. The resort was gorgeous, the food wonderful, but it was all the staff that made us smile. The manager went out of his way to make sure we were happy. On our last day we stepped out of our room to the most precious gift of plumeria blossoms in the shape of a heart were on our patio. Word for how we felt for the entire staff.”

After a few weeks of confinement in Bali, it seems that the recovery is slowly progressing. The number of people infected is not growing exponentially like in the other countries and the number of fatal cases is only 3 to date (https://infocorona.baliprov.go.id). One could say that the Island of Gods deserves its name.
But health recovery does not yet mean economic recovery. The latter will also depend on the decision taken by other countries to open their borders and allow their populations to travel again. The opening dates announced by certain European countries do not allow us to hope for a restart in Bali before the end of May, at the earliest. Let us form the wish that it will be sooner.
At Dajuma, thanks to the foresight and commitment of our staff, we found the way to keep the hotel opened despite the rare customers and to offer them a full service from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. So, do not hesitate to visit us. In Dajuma we are sure you will forget about this unusual epidemic for a moment.

FRUIT SEASON IN BALI

Now is the fruit season in Bali, there are a lot of fruits that one can find, mainly mangosteen, duku, rambutan and durian. This year the harvest is particularly rich in quantity and quality. But the pandemic has changed the habits of the producers. Usually, those fruits are easily found along the roads. Now, due to the Covid19, only few of them are left, the producers preferring to sell them online to respect the “physical distancing” rule. But don’t worry: sold on the roads or on line, both of them are as usual delicious! Are you good at recognizing tropical fruits? Try to find on the picture mangosteen, passion fruit, salak, rambutan, duku, pomelo, soursop and mango.
