Is there a better object for teaching a little bit of music to a 2 years old kid, than this impressive Jegog instrument, so typical of West Bali? This is what happened to Anatole in the Dajuma garden where thrones the beautiful instrument. It exists in different sizes, the one shown on the picture being medium. From the bamboo, It generates deep vibrations which are just hypnotic and makes you feel in communion with nature. Undoubtedly, Anatole loved it! Perhaps will he be able in some years to play in the village orchestra! That’s what we wish for him!

Our staff is used to have one hour break during their service of 8 hours. And, of course, the question is “What to do during this break besides eating which last a few minutes in Indonesia” ? All around the world the main option is to play with his/her smartphone, send messages to friends on social networks, etc. Here in Bali, it’s different: one can see very often people playing chess in the villages. Our staff does not make exception to the rule: they love playing chess, saying that it is the most relaxing activity they can dream of. On the picture, this is what Hendra (left) and Neng’ah (right), our restaurant supervisor and waiter are doing. And the winner is… (no need to know because they don’t care!)

A “WAYANG KULIT” SHOW TO CELEBRATE KETUT

2 weeks ago, a very unusual event happened in Medewi village, close to Dajuma. Our friend and colleague Rondy, GM in charge of Sales and Marketing in our team, is the happy new father of a young boy called Ketut. The birth of a boy after 3 girls was so expected by the family that Rondy’s father accomplished his wish by inviting in the village the famous wayang kulit group Ceng Blong lead by the no less famous puppeteer I Wayan Nardayana. He is renowned in all Bali for his unique Wayang Kulit show, mixing pieces borrowed from the Ramayana and topical subjects, all in a very dynamic and sometimes very funny dialogues. On this occasion, the main road of the village was cut, the traffic being reoriented by the police. Hundreds of villagers were happy to share the joy of Rondy’s family by assisting to the show. The picture shows these typical wayang kulit silhouettes so inspiring for us, westerners. Congratulations to Rondy and his family for this beautiful moment of sharing!

Facing the growing success of our Teppannyaki restaurant, our cook team composed of 8 cooks in total decided to expand this particular skill to 2 other colleagues. This is what happened yesterday when our Second Chef Rudi, specialist of Japanese teppanyaki cuisine, (red apron on the picture) transmitted his know-how to Dewi and our First Chef Dedi. Everything is now ready to welcome you anytime in the week in our Sinta lounge for a delicious dinner in the Japanese way!

With the Bendega villas extension of Dajuma in 2016, our Rama restaurant needed more space what we did with an outside terrace particularly appreciated by our guests because of its proximity with the sea. From there we have breathtaking views on sunsets and a gentle breeze from the sea. This year we decided to put a hat on it. But not an ordinary one: we chose the shape, depending on your imagination, of a banana or a leaf fallen down from the tree or a turtle shell. Some others can think of a Toraja roof. Anyway, the job has been performed by a skilled team of 6 workers headed by our old friend Selamat (green shirt on the picture). Not easy to realize such a complex roof but Selamat did it! Congratulations!

Julia and Mariia have been our guests the last 2 weeks, part of a Yoga group of 12 people coming from all over Europe. They particularly appreciated their stay with us and formulated an unusual request: planting 2 trees in the garden what our staff organised with great pleasure. This is what is shown on the picture: an already tall Araucaria for Julia and a young coconut for Mariia. Both trees will be happy to have your visit next year!

This year again, Dajuma celebrated the New Year in a very festive way. More than 80 guests enjoyed the New Year Eve with 3 orchestras (Jegog, Gamelan and Western Live), a pantagruelic buffet including, beside other dishes, the famous “babi guling” and delicious desserts prepared by our kitchen team under the attentive supervision of our 2 Chefs, Dedi and Rudi. The decoration theme this year was “nature”. All our staff participated in the preparation of very nice decorative items including a splendid Garuda entirely made of bamboo and palm leaves. The kitchen stands and the stage were also decorated with natural leaves. On the 12th stroke of midnight, everybody was happy to exchange their wishes for 2020 under the stars and a beautiful firework. We wish you a very happy, healthy and exciting year 2020!
