On March 3rd, on the first new moon in March, Bali will celebrate the Balinese Hindu New Year, the famous Hari Raya Nyepi also called the “Day of Silence”. Nyepi, marks the start of the Balinese Hindu Saka New Year and the arrival of spring. Beginning at 6 am and lasting until 6 am the following day, Nyepi is a day intended for self-reflection and anything that might disturb this is not allowed. This means no cooking or fires, no entertainment, no travelling and no work of any kind is permitted. On Nyepi, the usually busy streets of Bali fall silent and even though Nyepi is a Hindu festival, non-Hindu residents of Bali will also observe the day of silence out of respect for their fellow citizens. Tourists are free to do what they want inside their hotels but nobody is permitted onto the beaches or streets. The airport in Bali will also be closed for Nyepi and telecommunications companies even switch off internet services for a 24 hour period. A very special moment in the year for all Balinese, unique in the world and particularly appreciated by our guests. Happy Hari Raya Nyepi!

Since their creation a few years ago, the hotel schools in West Bali have earned a solid reputation. We are pleased to welcome dozens of their trainees each year from SMK 5 Negara (our neighbor) as well as OTC and Politknik Negeri Bali for training sessions in the field. We offer them a wide range of practical training in all departments of the hotel: housekeeping, catering, front desk, wellness, etc. At the moment we are training 29 highly motivated trainees. In the photo, our supervisor Hendra is at work in the Rama restaurant, explaining the intricacies of room service with a group of students. Welcome to the new generation!

Last week, our entire hotel staff, i.e. 45 people, received a third injection of the Astrazeneca vaccine. It is part of the Indonesian health policy to protect the population as much as possible and thus prepare for economic recovery. With a dependence on tourism close to 80% of GDP, the island of Bali has been particularly affected by the pandemic, forcing many players to convert to other activities, mainly agricultural. After 2 years of health crisis, the Balinese today dream of returning to normal living conditions. May this 3rd injection speed up the process. In the photo, Tini, both yogi and manager of our Spa, receives the 3rd dose from the hands of a soldier in a place specially organized for this.

What could be more enjoyable than discovering Bali by bike? This is what we offer our guests from Dajuma for excursions from the quietest to the most sporty. One of the most popular with our clients is the Tembles Bike Tour. You leave Dajuma around 8am in our adventure jeep, bikes in the back. After a 30-minute drive, you reach a traditional Balinese village called Tembles which is the starting point for your bike ride along the rice fields. You will visit the House of Jegog (traditional West Bali music), the village primary school, the traditional market and the very sacred Rambut Siwi temple at the end. About 4 hours. A perfect activity to keep you in shape and discover an authentic Bali.

Once again, on the occasion of the New Year, our former customers and friends Bruce and Frances were kind enough to offer our staff a package containing among otherthings, rice, egg, oil and some treats for the kids, the latter one  at the request of their own grandchildren! A nice gift that delights the 45 families of our staff!
They already helped us in 2020, when no one imagined for a moment that the pandemic would still be active until now. Yet this is what happened!

Another “annus horribilis” has just ended. A year ago, when we exchanged vows, who could have imagined for a second that the pandemic would last this long. In this unprecedented context, it is very difficult to predict anything for 2022. Thanks to its staff and loyal customers, Dajuma has nevertheless managed to weather the crisis without damage and to view the new year in a more favorable light. We are therefore ready to welcome you in our little paradise in the best conditions of comfort and safety. This day, we are also happy to celebrate the retirement of Sabtu (first row 3rd from the left, white cap) after 19 years spent at Dajuma as a kitchen supervisor. We wish you Dear Sabtu a beautiful and happy retirement as active as possible!

Astari (Front Desk Officer) and Juliarta (Restaurant Supervisor) are happy, on behalf of the entire Dajuma team, to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas. Made from driftwood collected from the beach, our Christmas tree was created again this year by our staff. Due to the resurgence of the pandemic, this year like last year, Christmas will be limited to a minimum of festivities. However, all Dajuma staff are more than ready to welcome you in the best conditions of safety, comfort … and fun, so necessary in this troubled period. So, merry Christmas and see you soon in our little paradise!
