The support of the orphanage Panti Asuhan Budi Mulia is one of the concerns of Puri Dajuma in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility.
This orphanage is located in the sub-district of Pulukan Pekutatan, a few kilometers from the hotel. Children who live there come from different parts of Indonesia: Java, Manado, Batam, Bali and Sulawesi.
On the picture our Priest Sri Anggrayani is greeting the lady in charge Ibu Ni Luh Raiwartini. We are used to regularly offer a donation which depends on the needs of the orphanage. This time, it was 50 kg rice.

Where are the most beautiful rice paddies in Bali?

This is the question often asked by our guests!
Honestly speaking, it is not easy to answer such a question because there are so many places in Bali where the rice paddies deploy their harmonious curves so well arranged by the farmers.
Should you prefer mountain paddies, the most beautiful are probably in the area of Munduk and Pupuan. With an open landscape as a background, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage, the famous rice terraces of Jatiluwih are probably among the prettiest.
Around Dajuma, we have also a lot of rice fields in between the mountains and the ocean with an outstanding particularity: we can see in their background the ocean and the Java volcanoes. Just superb!

This particular training is regularly held to continuously improve both skills and professionalism in order to perform a quick-and-effective-respond action in their daily duties. This month, the training took place at Dajuma’s Baruna Hall, conducted by Pekutatan Police Department Officers. Though there is no serious safety and security issue raising up in Pekutatan area as one of Bali’s exotic tourism destinations for the past few decades, this important training has an important yet valuable mission to provide the best possible way of giving the security assurance to both tourists and local villagers. On the picture, three gentlemen of Dajuma security team (black safari shirt) were listening carefully each important points of the training given by the senior police officer as the trainer in this session.

Our HR Manager Erly (photo) recently received from the provincial authorities in Negara an unusual award : our hotel has been selected as the best company in West Bali in terms of social protection of our staff including health and retirement plans. The prize also rewards the regularity in the payment of social charges. Since its opening in 2002, Dajuma has developped a social protection for its employees at a time where the government of Indonesia was not so advanced on this question. A private social plan was covering health issues as well as retirement plans. Now the situation is different: like in other countries, companies pay every month social charges in percentage of the salaries, in exchange of which the administration covers both health and retirement expenses

2014 has been rich for Dajuma from many points of view: completion of the renovation program of our cottages, 4 stars ranking from the Indonesian Association of Hoteliers, nomination to the Green Tec Awards and the World Luxury Hotels Awards and most importantly, a lot of positive feed-backs from our guests.
We selected one  which is for all Dajuma staff very meaningful insofar as it  translates perfectly the spirit of our hotel: authenticity, serenity and harmony.

Though we wish to preserve Bali’s beautiful countryside by reducing Dajuma’s environmental footprint, we are concerned by Bali’s needs in terms of our Corporate Social Responsibility.

On this topic, one major priority remains allowing children to go to school. As such, our team chose supporting Bali Children Foundation: www.balichildrenfoundation.org. Its main objective is to provide community education in remote areas of Bali.

Since July 2014, the BCF has increased their number of scholarships to cover the education of approximately 1000 students living across 30 communities and 2 children’s homes.

For the second time, this dynamic foundation has been organizing  the Go Study Auction on October 28th. The previous edition in April helped supporting 5 communities and 1 children’s home in West Bali.

Our team is very excited to support this great initiative for education of underprivileged children.

The  Rambut Siwi Temple is one of the biggest Hindu Temples in Bali, located a few kilometers from Dajuma.
When the sixteenth-century Hindu priest Nirartha sailed across from Java, he paused at this spot and claimed it as holy.  On leaving, he donated a lock of his hair to the villagers, who erected a temple and named it Pura Rambut Siwi, “the temple for worshipping the hair”.  The gift is kept in a sandlewood box inside the central 3-tiered meru.

Perched among frangipani on a promontory overlooking the sea, Pura Rambut Siwi occupies a truly beautiful site, set in the cliff bank with wide Indian Ocean just in front. Inside are shrines to Dewi Saraswati, the Goddes of learning and Dewi Sri, the rice Goddes.

A new free map to discover the surroundings of Dajuma

Dajuma is located nearby the village of Pekutatan, at the edge of West Bali National Park. The whole area  counts something like 15’000 inhabitants, in a harmonious mix of farmers and fishermen as well as Hindu and Islam religions. A lot of authentic wonders to discover for our guests, by foot, bicycle or motorbike, from the virgin sandy seashore where colorful prahos are operated by athletic fishermen to the rice paddies carefully cultivated by skilled and sympathetic farmers. To facilitate the discovery of the surroundings of Dajuma, we decided to create a detailed map where the roads and paths are clearly indicated as well as the the main points of interest.

There is a landmark on the beach in front of Dajuma which is a boat with 3 soldiers on the deck among which the famous Colonel Ngurah Raï, hero of the Indonesian independence. Despite a strong structure made from the concrete, the waves regularly damage this beautiful commemorative monument. Until this year it was impossible for Dajuma to renovate it because it is the property of the Indonesian army. After some months of negotiation, we finally obtained the authorization to refurbish it what is done at the moment. Here on the picture, our team of workers under the guidance of I Putu Edit Andi Pratama, a renowned artist in the region, specialised in the construction of statues all around the Regency.
Their work is so perfect that it is almost impossible to distinguish between real humans and statues. Try to count how many real humans we have on the picture!

For those who appreciate the Balinese Art, it is impossible to remain indifferent to the beauty of the carvings found everywhere around the island.
Who not remained fascinated by observing the delicate work of woodcarvers who, with makeshift tools, are able to make masterpieces that adorn houses, temples and  hotels in Bali.
On the picture, the carving in our Rama restaurant, one of the many wood carvings that decorate Dajuma. It was  made  by the cousin of our director.
When asked the question: “What are your sources of inspiration?”, the answer is : “Nature and Imagination”.
As simple as that!
