LEARN TO SCULPT IN DAJUMA

Who has never dreamed, as a child, of learning how to make magnificent wood carvings? This is what Dajuma offers its customers, once a week. Under the guidance of a master sculptor who graduated from the Tabanan sculpture school, children and parents alike are welcome to learn the precise gestures of this ancestral Balinese art. The smile of our young guest in the photo says a lot about the pleasure he had in transforming an ordinary piece of wood into a beautiful sculpture. MAKEPUNG: THE FAMOUS BUFFALO RACES OF WEST BALI

If you haven’t seen this incredible show yet, be sure to do so the next time you visit us, because it’s so worth it. 25 km from Dajuma, in a verdant setting of rice paddies by the sea at Delod Berawah, imagine a gathering of specially bred – one should rather say pampered – buffaloes ready to compete in a race led by fearless jockeys encouraged by a joyful and colorful crowd. It is this typical tradition of West Bali that our clients Henning and Inez have chosen to discover this last Sunday. A nice souvenir of holidays to immortalize in unforgettable photos.

KAWAH IJEN TREK

Part of the Merapi Mountains in East Java is the fascinating Kawah Ijen Volcano towering 2769m above sea level. It is particularly famous because many television channels have popularized its miners who directly extract sulfur from the bottom of the volcano and transport it with 50 to 70 kg on their shoulders through steep paths. Moreover, its crater lake is the largest acidic lake in the world with a strange milky turquoise color. A very interesting place easy to visit from Dajuma if you are not afraid to wake up early in the morning. Because the discovery of the breathing of the earth at sunrise, with its blue flames is just incredible. This excursion also gives us the opportunity, for those who wish, to help materially by a donation the families of miners whose life expectancy does not exceed 40 to 50 years. That’s what our hosts, the Lippay family, did a few days ago. A wonderful souvenir to bring back to Europe!

TREK TO GUNUNG AGUNG

With its 3142 meters above sea level, the sacred Mount Agung is one of the very active volcanoes of Indonesia with 5 eruptions recorded since 2017. Indonesia thus has 77 active volcanoes of type A (i.e. with a recent history of eruptions) out of 130 in total. Climbing Mount Agung is a real challenge because its ascent from Besakhi temple requires 6 to 7 hours of sustained physical effort on difficult trails. However, this is what our client Heiko from Germany has chosen to do this week, a trek that is particularly close to his heart. Well done Heiko!

TREKKING AT STATE ECOTOURISM PLANTATION OF PEKUTATAN

Dajuma is fortunate to be located on the edge of the West Bali National Park and the State Ecotourism Plantation of Pekutatan Village (1181ha). Last week we welcomed a group of 30 people who took advantage of a half-day of trekking around the plantation where they discovered rubber trees, coconut and banana trees, clove, coffee, cacao and vanilla trees. The process of making rubber was shown and explained to the group. The trek ended with a lunch at 300 m altitude with a panoramic view of the rice fields and the ocean. Not to be missed during your next stay!

DAJUMA GETAWAYS: TEMPLES BIKE TOUR

What could be more enjoyable than discovering Bali by bike? This is what we offer our guests from Dajuma for excursions from the quietest to the most sporty. One of the most popular with our clients is the Tembles Bike Tour. You leave Dajuma around 8am in our adventure jeep, bikes in the back. After a 30-minute drive, you reach a traditional Balinese village called Tembles which is the starting point for your bike ride along the rice fields. You will visit the House of Jegog (traditional West Bali music), the village primary school, the traditional market and the very sacred Rambut Siwi temple at the end. About 4 hours. A perfect activity to keep you in shape and discover an authentic Bali.

DAJUMA ESCAPADES: NOSTALGIA OF THE RICE FIELDS

Bali is also famous for the beauty of its rice fields. The pandemic crisis has made us nostalgic about this. In Dajuma, we are fortunate to be surrounded by magnificent rice fields which are cultivated all year round with several harvests per year, depending on climatic conditions. What makes them special is the proximity of the volcanic slopes and the sea. We therefore offer several excursions in total immersion with local farmers who teach us how to plant or harvest rice. Parents and children love to discover the practices of this ancestral culture. Would you like to try?

DAJUMA ECO-TOURISM TOUR

Close to Dajuma, is the State Plantation of Pulukan which is one of the preferred eco-tours of our guests. Imagine a huge 1200 ha area planted with all sorts of trees: coconut, coffee, cacao, clove trees, and the most popular, rubber trees from which the sap is extracted and treated on site in a workshop.
Our guests enjoy this 4 hours tour by 4WD jeep and by foot. It ends on top of the plantation by a revigorating lunch with a breathtaking view of the ocean. On the picture, Jeremie and Vanina from France with their guides Mertha and Sumawa, were offered rubber bracelets which present this astonishing property to automatically solder when you join their extremities. A small souvenir of a great moment of sharing with Mother Nature!

THE SEASON OF OLIVE RIDLEY SEA-TURTLE LAYING EGG

From April to November, we are lucky to see each year the laying of sea turtles on the beaches surrounding Dajuma. The eggs are quickly brought to the sea turtle conservatory in Perancak that we support for years. After 50 to 70 days the eggs hatch in a protected place, giving birth to baby turtles. Our customers and especially children are always very excited to follow the process until the birth of baby turtles. And what an emotion when you take into your hands these beings still so fragile to put them to sea safely!
