INDEPENDENCE DAY

19 August 2024/in News

At Puri Dajuma, the celebration of Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17 is particularly poignant due to the presence of the monument dedicated to national hero Ngurah Rai on the beach. Ngurah Rai, a key figure in Bali’s fight for independence, is honored with special ceremonies, including a wreath-laying and a moment of silence at the monument. The day begins with a flag-raising ceremony, where the Merah Putih flies proudly, followed by cultural performances highlighting Balinese traditions. Guests and locals alike participate in traditional games and activities that foster community spirit. The atmosphere is charged with patriotism, as the monument serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for Indonesia’s freedom, making the celebrations at Dajuma deeply meaningful and reflective of the nation’s history.

CELEBRATION OF I GUSTI N’GURAH RAI

8 April 2024/in News

In a nice demonstration of respect and admiration, the veterans of the Indonesian army organized on April 5 a poignant event to commemorate the heroic landing of one of the most revered figures in the country, Colonel I Gusti Ngurah Rai, in Pekutatan Beach during his Java-Bali expedition in 1946. The gathering took place against the backdrop of  Puri Dajuma, where a monument is now in honor of this momentous event.

76 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE

23 August 2021/in News

This week Indonesia celebrated 76 years of independence. All over the archipelago were taking place joyful celebrations. In our place where Dajuma is located, it takes on a special meaning because it is the place where Colonel N’Gurah Rai landed with his soldiers to fight against the Dutch army. It was in 1946 a year after the proclamation of independence. Since then, the whole Indonesian nation remembers this courageous officer who, with disregard for his own life and despite limited military resources, succeeded in changing the order of things. A great lesson in courage!

RESTORATION OF OUR MONUMENT BOAT

11 January 2021/in News

All our customers know the monument to the glory of Colonel N’Gurah Rai who landed on the beach in front of Dajuma in 1946 to fight and prepare for the independence of Indonesia. Due to its position in the submerged area at high tide of the beach, this iconic monument suffers daily assaults from the ocean and must be regularly repaired. This is what happened last week. Our team of masons-artists has completely restored this beautiful monument to the delight of the surrounding villagers and our guests. Nice work guys!

70th anniversary of Puputan Margarana

28 November 2016/in Culture, News, People

Everybody visiting Indonesia heard about Colonel Ngurah Raï whose name is celebrated everywhere including in the name of Bali International Airport.
But very few know that this national hero landed with his troops on the beach in front of Dajuma in April 1946 to bypass the blocus of the island by the Dutch army.
On November 20th,  the authorities celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Puputan Margarana (« fight until the end ») at Taman Pujaan Bangsa (TPB) Margarana, as a form of respect and appreciation for the service and sacrifice of heroes.
The ceremony was led by the Deputy Governor of Bali, I Ketut Sudikerta. In his speech, He said « the memorial is the momentum of renewal of the historical values of the nation. The Puputan led by Lieutenant Colonel I Gusti Ngurah Rai, against the invaders who wanted to regain control of the country, shows the spirit of struggle and unity of the people of Bali, as an integral part of the Republic of Indonesia. »

5 APRIL 1946

11 April 2016/in Culture, News, West Bali

Last Tuesday took place a great commemoration on the large beach just in front of Puri Dajuma.
It was 60 years when Lt Col I Gusti Ngurah Raï landed here with his soldiers from East Java, after the Dutch army blocked the access to Bali in Gilimanuk.
Native from Bali from the warrior Ksatriya caste, Ngurah RaÏ formed and commanded the Ciung Wanara regiment, the first official military force in Bali following Indonesia’s independence in 1945.
The inscription on the monument boat constructed there and recently refurbished by Puri Dajuma: “returning home after reporting to the republic’s leadership in Yogya” clearly refers to the meeting in Yogyakarta, Central Java, during which Ngurah Raï was tasked with leading the resistance in Bali.
5 APRIL 1946
The regiment spearheaded the guerrilla resistance in Bali against the better-armed forces that tried to bring Indonesia under Dutch rule. They perished at Margarana (Tabanan district) 20th of November 1946.
Gathering between the hotel’s lawn and the monument boat, veterans with their orange caps, young people with their green caps from the Indonesian army, military and civil authorities could share this important page of Indonesia’s history, and the guests enjoy it.

Renovation of our boat monument

15 September 2014/in Bali, Beach, Dajuma, News

There is a landmark on the beach in front of Dajuma which is a boat with 3 soldiers on the deck among which the famous Colonel Ngurah Raï, hero of the Indonesian independence. Despite a strong structure made from the concrete, the waves regularly damage this beautiful commemorative monument. Until this year it was impossible for Dajuma to renovate it because it is the property of the Indonesian army. After some months of negotiation, we finally obtained the authorization to refurbish it what is done at the moment. Here on the picture, our team of workers under the guidance of I Putu Edit Andi Pratama, a renowned artist in the region, specialised in the construction of statues all around the Regency.
Their work is so perfect that it is almost impossible to distinguish between real humans and statues. Try to count how many real humans we have on the picture!

Pekutatan beach in the « Jakarta Post » newspaper

27 January 2014/in Beach, News, Pekutatan, West Bali

Last Monday our beach was enhanced with half a page including five pictures in the « Bali daily »pages. We are happy to share some sentences:
…« Walking along the beach is a liberating experience. The sounds of the incoming waves, the clean air and that expanse of green moss that faithfully hug the rocks will surely convince any visitor they are in a different world.
The beach is a gem not only because of its natural beauty but also due to his position in the island’s history. A boat made of concrete… was constructed to commemorate the landing of Lt. Col. I Gusti Ngurah Raï and his men from East Java… leading the resistance in Bali… It is still the centerpiece of the beach. »…
And a good landmark for sunset pictures?
