APPRENTICE FISHERMEN

13 February 2023/in News

It is very moving to see the children of our fishing neighbors playing in the giant pots of our cape. With the means at hand, they build magnificent models which sail perfectly identically to the prahos of their fathers. They proceed in two stages: in the giant pots they test the new models and when they come out victorious in the tests, they are then put in the sea. Well played guys!

PRAHO UNDER REPAIR IN DAJUMA

22 March 2021/in News

This week, we would like to introduce you to our fishing village located right next to Dajuma. Many families make a living from this activity with daily sea fishing departures, very often at night. Our fishing enthusiasts often embark with them in the early morning and return a few hours later with great catches. Due to the pandemic, the boat that takes them has been at rest for months and its owner Mr. Sipriadi took the opportunity to give it a facelift: a few small leaks have been repaired, the paintwork completely redone and the bamboo floats replaced. The hull of the boat is carved in one piece from a hibiscus tiliaceus (waru tree) while the outriggers come from a particular species of bamboo called Petung bamboo. The repairs will have lasted a month and it is a completely renovated boat with undeniable charm that awaits you for your next fishing trip!

DAJUMA EXPERIENCE: FISHING OFFSHORE

6 November 2018/in Beach, Dajuma, Fishing, News, Restaurant, Sport, West Bali

Dajuma is located next door the fishermen village of Pekutatan and our beach supervisor Jupry, himself son of fisherman, is always happy to invite our guests to go fishing offshore. This is what happened last monday, when our repeater guest Bastian from Germany embarked with Jupry on a traditional praho very early in the morning around 6 a.m., enjoying a beautiful sunrise on the ocean. Bastian was lucky enough to catch a big mackerel fish and he asked our kitchen team to cook it for his dinner. Well done Bastian and Selamat Makan!

BACK FROM FISHING… AND DIRECT TO YOUR PLATE

20 July 2015/in Dajuma, Fishing, News, Pekutatan, Sport, Tours, West Bali

A nice spectacle from Dajuma garden, at sunrise or sunset, is the return of prahos coming back from their daily  fishing campaign. It is really impressive to see these fragile vessels negotiating the waves to land safely onto the shore next to Dajuma.
The village of Pekutatan where Dajuma is situated is well known for its fishermen: they supply all the area with fresh fish and seafood, including  our two restaurants Rama and Sinta.
Selamat makan (Enjoy your meal in Bahasa Indonesia).

Perancak Bugis

11 February 2013/in News, West Bali

30 km from Dajuma, the peaceful village of Loloan harbors an amazing history. It was settled by natives from Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Malaysia. They landed on Bali West coast on board of their unique Bugis to escape from the Dutch oppression. Those refugees soon became an important community of fishermen. The traditional jukung and sampan have been sailing off shore Negara, Rambut Siwi , Medewi and Pekutatan for the last 350 years. Their fishing technique requires two Bugis (boats). One of them is equipped with a captain chair raised 10 meters above sea level to locate the fishes. A net attached between the two boats catches them. These colorful Bugis became one of West Bali unique treasures.
