COCONUT TREES CLEANING AT DAJUMA

5 August 2024/in News

Cleaning the coconut trees in Dajuma Garden is an essential task to maintain the garden’s beauty and safety for our guests. This activity involves the careful removal of dead fronds, coconuts, and other debris that could pose a hazard. Our skilled gardeners perform this task with precision, often working at significant heights. Their expertise ensures that the trees remain healthy and the garden pristine. Despite being labor-intensive, this process is crucial in preventing accidents and keeping the environment welcoming for all. The dedication and skill of our gardeners are key to the ongoing upkeep of Dajuma Garden’s tropical charm. On the picture, our gardener Holis in action!

THE MAJESTIC COCONUT TREES OF BALI

6 November 2023/in News

The coconut trees of Dajuma tropical garden stand tall and elegant, their slender trunks swaying gently in the tropical breeze. These trees hold a special place in Bali, not only for their aesthetic value but also for their deep cultural significance. They play an essential role in Balinese cuisine, especially in dishes like “lawar klungah,” where freshly grated coconut is a key ingredient, adding a creamy texture and nutty flavor to the dish. Additionally, coconuts are essential to Balinese cleansing ceremonies known as “Melukat”. The holy water used in these ceremonies often comes from coconuts, symbolizing purity and sacredness.
Coconut trees also offer a wide range of practical uses in Bali. Their leaves are woven into intricate offerings during temple ceremonies, their wood is used in construction, and coir from coconut husks is an indispensable material for crafts and mattresses. Beyond their tangible uses, these trees constitute symbols of abundance and life in Balinese culture, forming an integral part of the island’s identity and daily life. HEALTHY DRINKS AT DAJUMA

26 March 2018/in News, People, Tours, West Bali

One of the magics of Bali is the extraordinary variety of its fruits and vegetables. On the fertil slopes of the volcanoes, can grow almost any kind of fruit trees and vegetables. The coconut is particularly appreciated because of the recognized vertues of its juice for health. But not only. At Dajuma our guests can also enjoy other healthy drinks (we call them “healthy coolers”) made from carrot, orange, ginger, broccoli, avocado, mint, turmeric and tamarin that you can drink as much as you like.
On the picture: Josiane and Alain FRANCOIS savoring a coconut offered by our guide during their ecotourism trek in the nearby Pulukan State Plantation.

THE SECRET OF OUR WELCOME DRINKS

31 May 2017/in Dajuma, Eco-Resort, News

Our welcome drinks are particularly appreciated by our guests who often ask the question « How do you make this delicious beverage ? ». The answer is very simple : everyday, we pick fresh coconuts directly from the property, from which we extract the juice and some flesh which are then mixed with lime and ice. On the picture, a set of coconuts going down from the coconut tree and ready to be processed. Selamat minum !

Where does the chocolate come from?

23 June 2014/in Nature, News, Pekutatan, West Bali

Dajuma is located next door the Pulukan State Plantation of 1180 ha where a lot of flora species such as coconut, rubber and clove trees, cocoa and vanilla plants, banana flowers are grown up by local and skilled farmers.
For western kids, the way these species are grown is just mysterious. For example who knows that peanuts grow underground ? Or that vanilla is a variety of orchid ?
And what about chocolate ? Where does it come from ?
One of our guests, Rev Martin Bieler, was shown on one of our tours a fresh open cocoa pod and decided to bring back two pods to Switzerland, to a local school where the children had been learning for some time about the origin and the production of chocolate. Now they finally got hold of two real  cocoa pods! From the original fruit brought back by Martin, it was explained step by step  to the children how to extract cocoa beans from the fruit, how to dry and roast before grinding and mixing them with a little fat to finally get the delicious chocolate which delights our palates.
What’s an experience for them!
