VISIT OF PUPUAN SAWAH PRIMARY SCHOOL

17 March 2025/in News

As part of our eco-policy and our commitment to sustainability, we offer our guests various activities that connect them with local villagers—mainly farmers at Dajuma Terrace and fishermen at Dajuma Beach. One of the most popular experiences is the village walking tour, which allows guests to engage with the community, visit private houses and temples, explore the rice field irrigation system, observe prahu (traditional boat) construction, and, as a highlight, visit the local school. Last week, our guest Roland from Germany, had the opportunity to enjoy this enriching experience. Touched by their visit, he generously decided to gift a parcel to each pupil at the Pupuan Sawah school. Our colleague Gusti on the photo was in charge of conveying the parcels on behalf of Roland after his departure from Bali. Judging by the radiant smiles in the photos, it’s clear how meaningful this visit was for everyone involved!

PROTECT BALI CULTURAL HERITAGE

6 March 2023/in News

On the photo, Stiven (Kindergarten pupil), the son of our Front Desk supervisor Agus, participated in his village in a Balinese story telling competition. Since five years In February, all the villages in Bali are used to hold a special event called Bulan Bahasa Bali, initiated by the government of Bali in order to preserve the Balinese culture as well as its dialect. In every village, all the elementary schools as well as the kindergarten have to choose their representative to participate in this event. The competition consists in Balinese story telling, writing or reading Balinese letters, singing traditional & sacred Balinese songs (Geguritan), poems and dances. Well done Stiven and congratulations for having been chosen!

Last week, an unusual event took place in Dajuma: the Annual Forum of Development Planning Agencies of the 8 Regencies of Bali + 1 Municipality of Denpasar. Each regency in Bali alternately hosts this annual event. Nearly 100 people exchanged their experiences over two days based on a performance evaluation by the Bali government and central government team. The top three regencies with the best development plans have been announced in this forum. Karangasem in third place, Denpasar in second place and Klungkung in first place. The next forum will take place in Bangli Regency. On the last night of the forum, the Jembrana committee organized the farewell party with Jegog performances and live music.

SARASWATI CELEBRATION IN BALI

24 October 2022/in News

Last Saturday, all of Bali celebrated the famous goddess Saraswati. In Hindu mythology, she is the wife of Brahma and the goddess of Knowledge and the Arts, personifying the word and the Vedas, the sacred books of Hinduism. On this day, the villagers went to the village temple to pray, while students of all levels meet at their school temple. A special ceremony for new students called “upanayana” was held on this occasion, with the aim of purifying and sharpening their mind. With a sharp mind, students can better assimilate knowledge and faster the learning process in school. It also aims to refine character, speak politely and behave well. Thus, with the Upanayana ceremony, it is hoped that students will have intellectual, social, spiritual and emotional intelligence so that they become role models for the community!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAMANTHA

26 September 2022/in News

Last week we had the pleasure of celebrating Samantha’s birthday. A special decoration for her bed was prepared in great secrecy by our staff while her parents and brother hosted a special dinner at our Rama restaurant. Our restaurant team has set up a special table decorated in Balinese style. One more good memory to bring back from the Island of the Gods. Happy Birthday dear Samantha!

INAUGURATION OF GILIMANUK-MENGWI HIGHWAY

12 September 2022/in News

Last Saturday, coinciding with the day of the full moon, our village hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for the long-awaited construction of the toll road linking Gilimanuk and Mengwi, named Jagat Kerthi Bali Toll Road. In addition to symbolic ceremonies, traditional Hindu ceremonies were also performed. The event was attended by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (Mr. Basuki Hadimuljoko), the Governor of Bali, the Chief of Police of Bali, the Regent of Jembrana and also in the presence of the surrounding community. The construction of this 96.21 km toll road should begin in 2023. This is very good news for all the inhabitants and economic actors of West Bali!

BACK TO FAIRS

14 June 2021/in News

After a year 2020 without any tourism fairs all closed due to the pandemic, Dajuma was particularly happy to participate in the annual tourism promotion event, the now famous Bali and Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF). It ran from Tuesday (8/6) to Saturday (12/6) at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) in Nusa Dua and brought together more than 150 buyers. Of these, 64 overseas buyers mainly from UK, France, Australia, some from USA and also Asian countries participated virtually, while buyers from Indonesia were able to participate physically. The tourism offer was represented by 125 vendors coming from 11 provinces of the archipelago. Puri Dajuma was at booth number A72. A good vintage that bodes well for a long-awaited return to normal!

HIGHWAY PROJECT IN PROGRESS

19 October 2020/in News

This time, it seems that the start of the highway project between Gilimanuk and Denpasar will finally see the light of day in Q4 2021, despite the pandemic crisis.
Concretely, this 95 km project will be divided into 3 sections: the first from our place, Pekutatan, until Soka, the second from Soka to Mengwi badung and the last from Gillimanuk to Pekutatan.
It will radically change the way goods are transported between Java and Bali with a very positive impact on traffic jams and road pollution.
From Dajuma’s perspective, we see this project in a very positive light. Not only will this shorten the journey to the airport to less than an hour but, more importantly for our guests visiting Bali, they will rediscover the beautiful back roads deserted by trucks.
Paradoxically, this highway will allow tourists to rediscover the Bali of yesteryear and at the same time to propel the island into modernity. Just a dream!

How the villagers of Pekutatan celebrate Independence Day

19 August 2019/in Bali, Culture, Dajuma, Jembrana, News, Pekutatan

In August, all Indonesia is keen to comemorate the independence day. Many funny activities were held on this occasion. Having no desire to break with this fine tradition, Pekutatan Village held its own activities, prepared and organised by its villagers. Few days before the independence day, there are some funny games, gate decoration competition using only natural material, Balinese dances performances and many more (see on picture). On August 17th was the formal flag ceremony, with the participation of students from the local schools based in Pekutatan, government officials, police, army and villagers representatives. This year, all the participants of flag ceremony were wearing Balinese traditional dress based on the instruction of the Bali Governor.

BALI MORE BALINESE

12 August 2019/in Bali, Culture, News

Part of the large Indonesia and its 279 Million inhabitants, welcoming 4 millions foreigners every year, one’s may fear that the small island of Bali could be losing step by step its brilliant culture and traditions.
This was before the new Bali’s Governor, Wayan KOSTER was elected last June, and made it clear that his administration intends to bring Bali back to its cultural roots, which is now effective through several decrees.
Changes are visible from anyone in Bali after applying these two:
N° 79/2018 Decree regarding customary Balinese Dress use stipulates that people working in Bali should don traditional wear every Thursday.
Same requirement during full moon (Purnama Day), new moon (Tilem Day), anniversary of Bali Province, regency anniversary days, and city anniversaries.
The island’s indigenous langage is traditionally written with an elaborate Brahmic-derived script natively known as Aksara Bali and Hanacaraka. Used in ceremonies and religious texts, the traditional script is deeply tied to Balinese Hindu practices.
“I think Balinese letters, Balinese text is in our identity, a symbol of our civilization” he said.
In accordance with Decree n° 80/2018, Balinese script will be written alongside Latin writing in public facilities, including our hotel as shown on the picture with the new signage on the road.
Many opportunities to enjoy the graceful « Udeng » on men head and women « Kebaya », and remember the Balinese long History through its everywhere writing.
On the picture taken in Dajuma garden, besides our colorful Jegog music instrument, some of our staff proud to wear the traditional Balinese dressing every thursday. From left to right, Dina, Alit, Kadek, Gusalit and Erly.
