About one hundred people gathered last week-end on Pekutatan west beach, just beside Dajuma, to celebrate the ocean in both religions Hindu and Muslim. On the Hindu side, the ceremony on the beach was the continuation of the temple ceremony that took place at Asah Duren Village (one village near by Puri Dajuma). They bring the symbols of god to be purified by a ceremony on the beach. They also brought various agricultural products taken to the sea by traditional fisherman boat as a symbol of gratitude and thanks to God for all the gifts and prosperity. On the Muslim side, a long speech was given by the local imam. A great moment for the Puri Dajuma guests who could appreciate the rare symbiosis of two religions celebrating at the same time and in the same place the ocean and its benefits.

Dajuma is always delighted to see Peter & Astrid. Our Dutch repeater guests enjoys Dajuma spirit at least once a year and even twice. For people familiar with Bali, there are numerous ceremonies, which are based on the 35 days Hindu calendar: 1 year, 5 years, 30 years and 100 years ceremony. All these rituals are written in the WEDA (Hindu Religious book). This year the 30 years ceremony or “Ngenteg Linggih” was performed at the village Temple. During this ceremony one brown Buffalo, one brown cow, one black lamb and one white duck are sacrificed and offered to the god. Pekutatan is composed of 6 Banjars or sub-villages where in total 1300 Hindu families live. Thereby Banjars have to establish a special schedule so that all their people can come to pray, dance and make offering. It was very colorful and entertaining. See you in 30 years…

Dajuma supports one orphanage of 14 kids. Located 10mns by car from Dajuma,  Budi Mulia orphanage receives great attention by many guests. Thereby, Brad, a principle who manages an elementary school of 355 children in Melbourne, came to visit the orphanage. Even during his vacation, Brad’s hobby is to keep in contact with his students. He developed a blog to exchange and sensibilize them to other parts of the world and to put them in contact with children of other cultures. What a great initiative! Brad is now back to school and will directly support the orphanage by raising funds through various activities with his kids. They will also exchange drawings among them. We are very happy to be the facilitators and hope more will come and join Brad’s action.

Dajuma is a great place to bring family together to immortalize a special moment. One of the latest was the 80th Birthday of Mister Bohre. His 4 sons together with their wife’s and grandchildren asked Dajuma to prepare a private evening. At low tide the beach is one of the perfect place to arrange a table decorated by our gardeners and maintenance staff. Gambalan music was played and young dancers performed for the family. All were delighted. Long life to Mister Bohre.

Dajuma paradise is the perfect place to learn about boutique hotel management. We were pleased to have with us Nouria, a young lady who is studying in one of the prestigious hotel school in Switzerland. Nouria is half way with her three years program and brought with her an interesting knowledge about hotel activities and exchange with all Dajuma staff during her one-month stay. She bring back with her the Balinese touch which and could apply some of it with her next employer. We wish Nouria all the best and a great challenge for the future.

We would like to introduce you Dajuma green hands team: Anom (second from left), is well supported by Gunaya (first from left), Mudita (second from right) and Sunarta. They take good care of our 1.7 Hectares land, where you can find a large variety of species (frangipanier, coral tree, paligata, spider lily, coconut, hibiscus, bougainvilliers, orchidées, roses, corbia, anturium, red palm, peacock tree, ardenium, gardenia, heliconia…). Anom, Gunaya, Mudita and Sunarta make Dajuma tropical garden a real paradise which attracts lot’s of birds and butterflies. In Bali, gardening is experienced as an artistic activity and is transmitted through family everyday life. Our gardeners are also in charge of all temporary decoration in the resort and for special events such as music shows and weddings. Please come and visit this enchanting garden!

In May, we had the pleasure to welcome back Otto and Elfi. This very charming German couple usually spends 2 weeks at Dajuma every easter. This year, it was their 11th stay with us. Without a doubt we call them our “Dajuma Aficionado’s couple”. Elfi confessed to us that at home, before going to sleep, she often has a glance at our Dajuma web site, looking at pictures. She says that it calms her down, remembering the sound of the ocean, the birds singing, the peaceful environment and the staff kindness. We thank them for their faithful support and we look forward to welcoming them next year!

Every spring, Puri Dajuma supports the local school of tourism by welcoming 10 trainees willing to experience a 10 day assignment in our resort. Lately, Budiman, our maintenance supervisor, showed Imam how to replace a pool light. Imam was very excited about this “hands-on” experience which is constantly reported by the participants as being very helpful to illustrate practically the subjects taught at school. No doubt that this kind of experience either confirms or clarifies one’s vocation in the hospitality business. In all cases, we wish them all the best and invite them to apply for open positions in Dajuma’s team.

Great emotion at Puri Dajuma: Yulia gets married!

All Dajuma staff is happy to be around Yulia for her wedding. You may remember her as “Miss beauty” as many guests use to call our pretty receptionist. Yulia grew up in Pekutatan, near Puri Dajuma, and remembers how, at age 11, she came to get brochures for an exercise at school: “I was very shy at that time. As I already had family members who were working there, I applied”. She’s just got married to Wahid Zainullah, a nice young man also from the village of Pekutatan. After 3 years spent with us, Yulia decided to resign and fully dedicate herself to her family. We wish her a lot of happiness and many “baby beauties”. We already miss her charming smile.
