Dajuma is fortunate to be located on the edge of the West Bali National Park and the State Ecotourism Plantation of Pekutatan Village (1181ha). Last week we welcomed a group of 30 people who took advantage of a half-day of trekking around the plantation where they discovered rubber trees, coconut and banana trees, clove, coffee, cacao and vanilla trees. The process of making rubber was shown and explained to the group. The trek ended with a lunch at 300 m altitude with a panoramic view of the rice fields and the ocean. Among all the activities offered by Dajuma, there are two that are particularly appreciated by our guests: the floral decoration and the Balinese dances. Both are regularly offered. For Balinese dances, the dance school of the village of Pekutatan has the habit of practicing this subtle art on our stage facing the Rama restaurant and the ocean. Our guests are invited to participate especially children but not only as shown in the photo. The other popular activity is floral decoration using mainly flowers and bamboo. The Balinese are real experts in the field, capable of making any decorative object, simply by cutting young bamboo skins mixed with fresh flowers. It is also an opportunity to get together to discuss village life and compare creations. Try it, we are sure you will love it!

Located on a cape not far from the world famous surf spot of Medewi, Dajuma is the ideal place to practice all water sports. Which ones? At the top comes surfing, which can be practiced in front of the hotel or a little further on in Medewi, well known for its famous left wave of 500m. Yesterday Claus’s family and their Balinese friends had a great time in our teppanyaki. Our Chef Rudi has concocted a special Japanese menu based on ultra-fresh ingredients. Several menus are offered to our customers for all tastes: vegetarian, teriyaki, seafood or steak, all accompanied by delicious accompaniments including the famous miso soup. A very pleasant moment to spend in our Sinta lounge, with the sound of the waves and a breathtaking panoramic view of the sunset. When are you coming?

For many years, Dajuma has actively supported the Marine Turtle Conservatory located in Perancak, 25 km from us. Many sea turtles lay their eggs on the beaches around Dajuma, but the risk of seeing them stolen or devoured by stray dogs or birds is great. So we encourage villagers and our staff to pick them up and bring them to the conservatory. Last week, many births took place. The children of our customers had the pleasure of bringing the baby turtles to the sea, in complete safety. Well done kids!

Last week we were pleased to welcome our long-time friend Alex who is behind several initiatives in favor of sustainable development in Bali. Among the most notable are sustainability-leaders.com, breathingcoldbali.com and refillmybottle.com. This time he brought some friends and kids and asked us to find a teacher to teach Bahasa Indonesia to the kids. Last Friday, our Bendega restaurant was hence transformed in a nice classroom with direct view of the ocean and fishermen boats. Alex with Mia, Mira, Oskar, Kyle, Sarah, and Lili enjoyed a lot the Bahasa Indonesia class conducted by Mrs. Yuli from Bunut Bolong Village!

Last week, Fabrice and Sylvie discovered a nice surprise in their room on the occasion of their wedding anniversary. A floral arrangement made of flowers picked from the hotel grounds was discreetly arranged by our housekeepers on the bed of their room and it was when they returned from their excursion that they discovered this kind attention. This is the good news of the week, expected for so long!

“The government will conduct a no-quarantine trial for foreign travelers who come to Bali, which will take effect on March 14 under our current plan,” the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said after a meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and several cabinet members.

During the planned trial period, foreign travelers coming to Bali must meet several requirements, Luhut said.

First, they must show payment for hotel bookings that have been paid for at least four days. Second, they must have received complete or booster vaccine doses against Covid-19.

Third, they will take a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test upon arrival and agree to wait for the results in their hotel room until the negative test results come out. Today, the standard test result usually comes out in 24 hours, but one can pay more for an expedited result.

“After being declared negative, they can be free to do any activities,” Luhut said. The foreign travelers will take another PCR test on the third day at their respective hotels.

Hopefully this trial period will be successful and mark the end of the pandemic!
