RICE PLANTING – A TIMELESS BALINESE TRADITION

For more than a thousand years, rice has shaped the landscapes, traditions, and daily life of Bali. Its cultivation is inseparable from the Subak, Bali’s unique community-based irrigation system, where water is shared according to ancient principles of harmony between people, nature, and the spiritual world. Here, rice planting is still done by hand, patiently following traditions passed down through generations. The flooded terraces mirror the sky while farmers carefully plant each young rice shoot, one by one. At Dajuma Terrace, our guests can become part of this centuries-old tradition. Under the attentive guidance of experienced local farmers, they love stepping into our 7,500-square-metre rice field  and learning how to plant the young shoots themselves. It is always a beautiful moment of sharing, filled with smiles, curiosity, and genuine connection with Balinese rural life. And the most magical part is that this timeless scene is not something you need to travel to discover. It is simply what you may see from your room when you wake up in the morning — a living Balinese tradition unfolding quietly before your eyes.
