We are often asked the question “how is the rainy season in Bali“? The only possible response is “definitively nice”, as it enhances the island’s natural splendor and  it rains only a few moments in the day, often during the night. But the most amazing, are the sunsets during this season which are nothing short of unforgettable, as shown on the picture taken from the terrace of our Rama restaurant (Photo guaranteed without any treatment). As the sun descends, it paints the sky with hues of orange, red, pink, and gold, casting a breathtaking spectacle upon the horizon.

Gede, captured in the image, is not just a master carver; he embodies the essence of a true artist. Last Friday and Saturday (February 2nd – 3rd,2024), our regency held the International Jembrana Bali Chocolate Festival at the Jagatnata Botanical Gardens. Jembrana is renowned for its exceptional cocoa beans. They boasts a unique quality that sets them apart in the world of cocoa production because of their distinct flavor profile, a harmonious blend of fruity and nutty notes, making them highly sought after by chocolate connoisseurs globally. In a groundbreaking move, local authorities initiated a transformative project to designate the regency of Jembrana and its capital city Negara as the ‘City of Chocolate.’ Rather than exporting their prized cacao nibs to various countries, the focus now shifts towards establishing an end-to-end chocolate production process within Jembrana itself. This ambitious initiative aims to add value to their agricultural output by transforming the premium cacao nibs into finished chocolate bars, showcasing the region’s commitment to quality and innovation. An additional layer of collaboration comes in the form of annual workshops held in Dajuma, where cacao bean producers from Jembrana join forces with pastry chefs from across Asia. This collaborative effort is spearheaded by the esteemed French producer VALRHONA, contributing to the exchange of expertise and the elevation of Jembrana’s chocolate production standards on the international stage. Long life to the brand new « City of Chocolate ».

At J-160 days from the grand opening, the brand new Dajuma Beach brother called “Puri Dajuma Terrace“,  in the picturesque rice fields of Pupuan Sawah, is making remarkable strides. Everyday around Dajuma Cape, skilled lobster hunters are using rustic traps crafted from locally sourced bamboo, in the age-old tradition of lobster hunting. Armed with years of experience passed down through generations, they have a deep understanding of the tides, currents, and the behavior of lobsters. They strategically position their traps along the rocky seabed, where lobsters seek refuge in rocky formations. The traps, ingeniously made from bamboo, create pathways that lure lobsters with the promise of shelter. As the night unfolds, the traps begin to yield the fruits of their labor. The rhythmic sound of the waves is accompanied by the excitement of a successful catch, when the hunters carefully retrieve their prized lobsters from the traps. This sustainable and traditional method not only supports the livelihoods of the local community but also underscores the delicate balance between human activity and the preservation of the marine ecosystem. The celebration of the new year at Dajuma unfolded in a joyful and festive atmosphere, immersing guests in the rich cultural heritage of Bali. With the rhythmic beats of Jegog music, this traditional bamboo ensemble has set the stage for an enchanting evening, creating a harmonious blend of ancient and modern sounds and accompanying the famous Balinese dances on  the stage, weaving tales of mythology and folklore. Then live music took over with talented musicians and singers who added their contemporary flair to the evening. On midnight precisely, the night sky comes alive with bursts of brilliant fireworks, casting a kaleidoscope of colors over the Puri Dajuma grounds and signaling the arrival of a fresh chapter.
Chef Dedi and Rudi, the culinary maestros of Puri Dajuma, crafted with their team of cooks a delectable buffet that was a feast for the senses.

Dajuma marked a double celebration with exuberance as it commemorated its 21st anniversary, a jubilant milestone coinciding with the festive spirit of Christmas. The joyous gathering brought together 42 dedicated staff members, a testament to the enduring commitment of most, who have been an integral part of the Dajuma family since its inception in 2002. Each staff member received  a parcel, symbolizing gratitude and appreciation for their longstanding contributions. Saraswati Day in Bali, celebrated on December 16th, is a vibrant cultural occasion dedicated to the goddess of knowledge, Saraswati. On this special day, the  people of our neighbour village, including our hindu staff, engage in a unique purification ritual, immersing themselves in the ocean in front of Dajuma during the early morning hours. The sea, considered sacred, becomes a purifying medium as locals partake in prayers and offer blessings to seek wisdom and enlightenment. The rhythmic sounds of traditional ceremonies and the sight of devotees in colorful attire create a mesmerizing scene, showcasing Bali’s rich cultural tapestry.
