THE BALINESE « MIRACLE »

18 May 2020/in Bali, News

This week, we were lucky to welcome a few guests, happy to swim in our pools without worrying about the distancing rules. Still far from returning to normal, but good in any case for morale!
The other good news is the status of the pandemic in Bali: on May 16, there are only 99 active cases out of 346 in total, with 243 people healed and 4 dead.
An interesting article published by Aljazeera on May 2 finds that there is no visible sign of spread of the pandemic in Bali and wonders about this miracle while the island was still welcoming thousands of Chinese tourists in the beginning of the year. In their investigation, several interesting hypotheses have been put forward that are worth reading.
Either way, Dajuma is holding on thanks to its staff, always as motivated and involved as usual. Simply let us form the wish that all this ends quickly!

THE PEKUTATAN “GREEN WARRIORS”

11 May 2020/in Bali, News

For more than twenty years we have been traveling around Bali and have seen the remarkable progress made in terms of environmental protection. Paradoxically, the Covid 19 crisis seems to have further accelerated this trend. All villages have now organized to prevent the spread of the virus with masks and hydroalcoholic gel available everywhere. This will undoubtedly have positive effects on the Covid 19 but also on other pathologies. In our village of Pekutatan, a team of volunteers called “Green Warriors” was created to keep the environment clean and green. Usually, they do general cleaning in the village and beaches. In this pandemic situation, they do spraying (with disinfectant liquid) regularly in the villagers houses, public places and they do it also in our hotel every Saturday. Hopefully this trend will continue when the current pandemic is over!

DAJUMA IS READY TO WELCOME YOU

4 May 2020/in Dajuma, News, West Bali

Thanks to the commitment and dedication of our staff, Dajuma keeps open from 7:00 to 23:00 during this so special Covid 19 period. We found the solution to offer to our very rare guests a full service by splitting our 48 employees in 4 groups of 12 people, each group ensuring the job for 1 week. By doing so, not only we keep open all departments (front desk, restaurant, kitchen, housekeeping, maintenance, garden, laundry, and Spa) but our staff can still work and maintain a good spirit among them – while, of course, respecting the necessary social distancing and wearing a mask. We also installed hydroalcoholic dispensers around the resort at the disposal of our staff and our guests and we regularly check the body temperature with appropriate equipment. All health and safety conditions are thus fulfilled in a setting which remains as idyllic as before the crisis. On the picture, Agus and Astari would love to welcome you!

A DAJUMA EXPERIENCE

27 April 2020/in Dajuma, News, West Bali

Failing to be able to speak about the news of Dajuma – the hotel being empty – let us give the floor to our dear customers who make us the friendship to visit us regularly, for some of them several times a year. This testimony was sent to us from Australia by email on April 10th:
“My husband & I spent our 50th wedding anniversary in this beautiful place last January. Every person that works there was gentle, caring and exuded peace fullness. The resort was gorgeous, the food wonderful, but it was all the staff that made us smile. The manager went out of his way to make sure we were happy. On our last day we stepped out of our room to the most precious gift of plumeria blossoms in the shape of a heart were on our patio. Word for how we felt for the entire staff.”
One million thanks dear Robin & Robert for your kind words which have enchanted our staff! Please come again soon!

LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL?

20 April 2020/in Bali, Dajuma, News

After a few weeks of confinement in Bali, it seems that the recovery is slowly progressing. The number of people infected is not growing exponentially like in the other countries and the number of fatal cases is only 3 to date (https://infocorona.baliprov.go.id). One could say that the Island of Gods deserves its name.
But health recovery does not yet mean economic recovery. The latter will also depend on the decision taken by other countries to open their borders and allow their populations to travel again. The opening dates announced by certain European countries do not allow us to hope for a restart in Bali before the end of May, at the earliest. Let us form the wish that it will be sooner.
At Dajuma, thanks to the foresight and commitment of our staff, we found the way to keep the hotel opened despite the rare customers and to offer them a full service from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. So, do not hesitate to visit us. In Dajuma we are sure you will forget about this unusual epidemic for a moment.
Waiting for better times, take good care of yourself!

FRUIT SEASON IN BALI

13 April 2020/in Bali, Nature, News

Now is the fruit season in Bali, there are a lot of fruits that one can find, mainly mangosteen, duku, rambutan and durian. This year the harvest is particularly rich in quantity and quality. But the pandemic has changed the habits of the producers. Usually, those fruits are easily found along the roads. Now, due to the Covid19, only few of them are left, the producers preferring to sell them online to respect the “physical distancing” rule. But don’t worry: sold on the roads or on line, both of them are as usual delicious! Are you good at recognizing tropical fruits? Try to find on the picture mangosteen, passion fruit, salak, rambutan, duku, pomelo, soursop and mango.

BALI IN THE CRISIS

6 April 2020/in Bali, Dajuma, News, Tropical garden

Very strange situation in Bali at the moment! The traffic on the roads, usually busy, is almost null, as well as in the streets. The villagers have been instructed to stay at home, what is widely respected. Hotels are no exception to the rule. Most of them operate in a reduced manner or are completely closed.
For Dajuma, we continue to welcome a few rare customers with a reduced team which nevertheless provides all the services of the hotel including catering, wellness and beach activities. With the legendary Balinese smile as a bonus! Don’t miss to stay for a few nights or just stop over for a lunch or dinner. We guarantee you will be, as usual, very warmly welcomed!

NYEPI NOT AS USUAL THIS YEAR

30 March 2020/in Bali, Culture, News

On March 25th, took place in Bali the famous Nyepi, the sacred and peaceful day of silence that welcomes the Saka New Year in the Balinese calendar. Nyepi is a day reserved for self-reflection, and as such, anything that might interfere with that purpose is restricted. The main restrictions are no lighting fires (and lights must be kept low); no working; no entertainment or pleasure; no traveling; and, for some, no talking or eating at all.
This year, Nyepi takes on a new dimension with the coronavirus pandemic. It’s like the whole world is celebrating Nyepi as well, by staying at home and spending time on self-reflection. In Bali a lot of celebrations and gatherings have been disrupted such as Melasti (purifying ceremony) and Pengerupukan, a day before, which is finished by doing Pecaruan (a ritual to neutralize negative spirits) and Ogoh-Ogoh parade. All those rituals usually involve mass participants, but this year all the rituals were restricted (the number of participants cannot be more than 10, only the priest and some village committee members who must keep the physical distancing), and the other prayed at home. Due to Covid 19 the Bali governor instructed to extend one of the restriction on the day after, people were not allowed to travel and must stay at home. Our traditional vows of good health take on particular relief on this occasion. May the pandemic so violent in the world, ends soon. Happy and Healthy Nyepi!

SAFEGUARD MEASURES AT DAJUMA

23 March 2020/in Dajuma, Eco-Resort, News, West Bali

Dajuma like all other hotels in Bali is facing a major crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic. Our reservations have been dropping drastically as well as our revenue.
In this unusual context, we would like to reach 2 objectives:
1- Convince our guests not to panic by cancelling all their reservations, including those far in time. We already changed our cancellation policy last week by allowing cancellations until the day before the stay and to change the dates of the stay at no extra cost. In spite of these advantageous conditions and without any risk for the customer, reservations even distant in time continue to be canceled and create a certain stress with our staff. The best decision you can make if you are desirous to help us is definitively to maintain your reservations as much as possible or change them, but not to cancel them.
2- Keep our staff, their families and our guests in good health: because the impact of the pandemic is still almost inexistant in Bali, most of Balinese people don’t observe enough prevention. So we explained to our staff to be very careful with this virus by applying some simple rules between the staff and also with our guests: keep 1 meter distance with people, always cough in the elbow, do not shake hands, wash regularly hands after touching any object not part of the usual environment, especially metallic ones, limit as much as possible the trips and to meet as few people as possible including the family if not in the same village. By applying these simple rules, hopefully we will drastically reduce the risk of contagion in our preserved West Bali and keep our staff and our guests in good health.
We look forward to welcoming you again soon! Please help us by not cancelling your reservations.

CORONA VIRUS CRISIS

16 March 2020/in Dajuma, Eco-Resort, News, West Bali

Difficult, this week, to speak of anything other than the pandemic whose effects are felt throughout the tourism industry. Despite the few reported cases, Bali is not spared because the decisions taken by foreign governments to limit the movements of their nationals have a negative impact on the attendance of the island. Dajuma like the other hotels is not immune to the decline in activity.
So, in this new context, the only thing to do is to remain optimistic, hoping that things will return to normal quickly. In the meantime, all arrangements are made at the hotel to ensure optimum sanitary conditions for our guests.
Also important, to allow them to book without fear in the coming weeks, we have revised our cancellation policy by allowing cancellations without charge, until the day before the stay. Similarly, postponements of stays are possible at no cost.
Take good care of yourself and see you soon back in Dajuma!
