DAJUMA EXPERIENCES: CLOVE HARVEST

10 July 2023/in News

Clove harvesting at Pancak Tirtha in Jembrana, Bali, with Dajuma guests is a unique and memorable experience that combines the beauty of nature, local farming practices and cultural immersion. Located in the scenic area of Jembrana, Pancak Tirtha is not only a popular lunch spot but also a place where guests can witness and participate in the traditional clove harvesting process.

When guests arrive at Pancak Tirtha, they are greeted by the owner, Pak Ming, known for his expertise in growing cloves. With his warm smile and genuine hospitality, Pak Ming welcomes Dajuma guests, sharing his knowledge and passion for growing cloves.

The lush greenery surrounding Pancak Tirtha creates a breathtaking backdrop as Pak Ming leads guests to the clove plantation. The air is filled with the invigorating aroma of cloves, setting the stage for an immersive experience in the heart of Jembrana’s agricultural landscape.

Amid vibrant clove trees, Pak Ming explains the importance of harvesting cloves in Jembrana and the meticulous care needed to ensure a successful yield. He shares information about the life cycle of clove trees, their unique characteristics, and ideal growing conditions.

As guests explore the plantation, they have the opportunity to observe the clove trees in different stages of development. Some trees are adorned with beautiful white and pink flowers, while others are abundant with ripe cloves ready to harvest.

With the gentle guidance of Pak Ming, Dajuma guests are invited to partake in the centuries-old tradition of “Ngepik Cengkeh”, which involves separating cloves from the stems. Armed with nimble fingers, guests carefully pick the cloves, experiencing firsthand the delicate nature of the harvesting process.

Pak Ming shares stories of the challenges and joys of growing cloves in Jembrana. He explains that the current season might not be as abundant as expected due to certain factors, such as weather conditions or natural variations in tree productivity. Nonetheless, he stresses the importance of appreciating small harvests and the resilience of local farmers.

As guests actively engage in clove harvesting, their connection to the land and the local community deepens. They gain a new appreciation for the hard work and dedication it takes to bring this aromatic spice from farm to table.

After the successful harvest, Pak Ming brings the guests together for a moment of reflection and gratitude. He expresses his gratitude for their participation and offers them a thoughtful gift: a selection of freshly harvested cloves as a souvenir. This gesture serves as a reminder of the shared experience and bonds formed through this immersive journey into Jembrana’s clove culture.

The day ends with a delicious lunch at Pancak Tirtha, where guests savor the flavors of local cuisine infused with the aromatic essence of cloves. The meal becomes a celebration of the harvest, a feast of community and connection, where stories and laughter are shared.

Harvesting cloves at Pancak Tirtha in Jembrana, Bali with Dajuma guests is not just an agricultural activity, but a gateway to cultural exploration and appreciation. It promotes a deeper understanding of local traditions, the beauty of nature and the interconnectedness between communities and their environment. It’s an experience that leaves a lasting impression, weaving together the scents, flavors and memories of Jembrana’s clove harvest into the fabric of each guest’s journey.

ECOTOURISM AT DAJUMA

5 June 2023/in News

Among all activities offered by Dajuma (https://www.dajuma.com/e-library/#activities–tours), there is one which is particularly appreciated by our guests: the ecotourism tour. It is  a unique ecotourism experience that showcases the breathtaking natural beauty of the island. An amazing trip in our 4WD Jeep around Pulukan Ecotourism State Plantation of Pekutatan village (1181 ha) where you will discover rubber trees, coconut and banana plantations, clove and vanilla trees. The process to make palm sugar is shown and explained to you. Cherry on the cake, as shown on the picture, the tour ends in paradise with a lunch taken at 300 m elevation with a panoramic view on the jungle and the ocean.

SCHOOL GUESTS

28 November 2022/in News

There is also another way to discover Bali: simply by visiting the villages and more precisely the village schools. By talking to villagers, teachers and students, you can learn a lot about social life in Bali today. This is what is offered to our guests in a tour entitled “Village life and rice farming”: after a long bike ride in the rice fields and a rice farming exercise in real size, they are invited to visit a village and its primary school. A very interesting moment of sharing. As the photo shows, 4 of our guests made it last week and came back absolutely delighted!

BETWEEN YOUR MOMENTS OF RELAXATION

5 September 2022/in News

Holidays are not always synonymous with idleness. This is particularly true in Bali when you visit the island as a tourist, where you are constantly encouraged to discover something new that delights you, be it cultural, artistic or sporting. This is the case of Dajuma whose site lends itself particularly well to all kinds of activities as shown in the photo with badminton, a very popular sport in Indonesia which has several of the best players in the world. A small overview of these on-site activities is given here: https://www.dajuma.com/e-library/#activities–tours. Enjoy!

RICE FARMING EXPERIENCE

15 August 2022/in News

Among the many Bali discovery activities offered by the hotel, there is one particularly appreciated by our guests: the rice farming experience. That’s what the UK’s Marsden family chose to do last week in a rice field located a few km from Dajuma. Welcomed by local farmers belonging to the family of one of our employees, they discovered how Balinese farmers go about cultivating rice, from plowing the rice field with a special ox-drawn plow to installing rice plants, all in a good mood! They enjoyed a lot this so unusual experience. Why don’t you try it next time you visit us?

LEARN TO SCULPT IN DAJUMA

25 July 2022/in News

Who has never dreamed, as a child, of learning how to make magnificent wood carvings? This is what Dajuma offers its customers, once a week. Under the guidance of a master sculptor who graduated from the Tabanan sculpture school, children and parents alike are welcome to learn the precise gestures of this ancestral Balinese art. The smile of our young guest in the photo says a lot about the pleasure he had in transforming an ordinary piece of wood into a beautiful sculpture. Other workshops of the same type are offered to our customers, among others, floral decorations, cooking lessons, learning the art of Balinese dance, massages, yoga (https://www.dajuma.com/e-library/#activities–tours).

STRANDING OF A WHALE SHARK

5 October 2020/in News

This week, we experienced a sad event with the stranding of a baby whale shark on the beach of Pekutatan, close to Dajuma. Despite the efforts to put it back in the water it was not possible to save it, as the weight of this animal is phenomenal, being able to reach up to 30 tons and a size of 20 m in adulthood. In almost 20 years of presence in Pekutatan, we have only very rarely experienced this type of event, but each time it is a great emotion when you feel powerless to save such a beautiful animal.

A DAJUMA EXPERIENCE

27 April 2020/in Dajuma, News, West Bali

Failing to be able to speak about the news of Dajuma – the hotel being empty – let us give the floor to our dear customers who make us the friendship to visit us regularly, for some of them several times a year. This testimony was sent to us from Australia by email on April 10th:
“My husband & I spent our 50th wedding anniversary in this beautiful place last January. Every person that works there was gentle, caring and exuded peace fullness. The resort was gorgeous, the food wonderful, but it was all the staff that made us smile. The manager went out of his way to make sure we were happy. On our last day we stepped out of our room to the most precious gift of plumeria blossoms in the shape of a heart were on our patio. Word for how we felt for the entire staff.”
One million thanks dear Robin & Robert for your kind words which have enchanted our staff! Please come again soon!
